JPEG files keep converting to bin files on Android tablet

I’m new to forums so apologies if I’ve gotten anything wrong.
when I try to download finished artwork the JPEG converts to a bin file and I cannot open it.
how do I fix this?? pls help.

 Hello @XRadioWolf and welcome to the forum!

Please describe in more detail from where to where you download finished artwork, and if you mean you save or export it from Krita to wherever in which format is the file before this?

Which version of Krita do you use and from where you obtained your copy of Krita, and which version of Android do you use?

before I save the image from Krita, it’s in JPEG format.
I’ve tried saving and exporting in JPEG and .Kra format but it just keeps coming out to be a bin file. The only way I was able to get an actual image was when I downloaded it as .GIF but it was corrupted because it was a regular image. I use version 5.2.2 and I got it from Google Play store. My Android tablet is running on version 11.

I’m still confused, you keep writing download but you can’t download things from Krita.

sorry I’m meaning, after I’m done with my artwork I go to file, save as, then I save it as a jpeg.

For my understanding, Krita handles a file in Krita in its own format, at the moment you save or export a file from Krita to your hard drive, SD-Card, cloud-space, or any other place, we are speaking from saving or exporting. Downloading is the action to download a file of any content to your device, usually it is assumed this comes out of the WWW, but that is only one possibility.

Okay, now that this is clear, to where do you save your file? Can you show us a screenshot from your saving settings?

Ok here’s my process of saving

And then I just hit ok.

Good screenshots (except I’m nervous for you that you’re not “saving” as .kra and then “exporting” as jpg – that’s the recommended process).

Can you show us what makes you think your jpg export becomes a bin file?

I guess that Android only shows that this is a file containing binary data, and not a text file for instance, but this is only a guess, and because I currently do not have access to an Android device you need advice from users using Android. The only thing I can offer you is to try to open a file from you on my Krita using Windows, if you are willing to send me one of your files for checking this.

Do JPG/JPEG files you downloaded from the WWW also show this BIN as file type?

Michelist

Yeah! So when I “save” I usually go to Google files to make sure it “saves” properly. However it doesn’t show up as a regular image like others do but instead like a file that I can only open with other art programs instead of viewing regularly.

No jpeg files download normally, it’s only on Krita that it doesn’t work for some reason. I can download jpeg images off the internet just fine. And yeah I can send you a file, would I just send it through this forum or an email address or something? Sorry for the dumb question

But do you save your files locally to your device’s disc, SD-Card, USB-Drive, whatever, or do you save your files directly into the cloud?
Furthermore, were you ever able to successfully save files you made in Krita?

There are no dumb questions, only dumb answers are possible and given far too often. I’ll send you a PM, just a moment.

I’m honestly not sure where it saves to, I just know it goes directly to Google files. I guess it saves on an SD card. And yes, when I first got the app in was able to properly save my image, but when i tried to make a second piece it just wouldn’t save anymore.

Problem solved, it is a simple solution, just remove the space and the brackets with the numbers within, so everything behind .JPG or .KRA or whatever extension you used for saving a file. So that your file names look like this:

As proof, this was the file you sent me:

So, your file names have to look like nice_picture.kra, bad_joke.jpg, but not like nice_picture.kra (14), bad_joke.jpg (2). I think Android added these numbers in brackets to your file names, if there already existed a file with the same name, so you should get into the habit and live out your creativity not only on canvas but also by giving your files unique names…
