July's moodboard challenge

Hello there!

I’m here with July’s moodboard:

I’ll make a bit of intro of the moodboard instead of only sharing it. As an artist even if most of my draws and prefered field is characters from some years to today background have been gaining more interest. I’m really fond of great architectures with lots of details and oriental influence. Nature have a really strong influence too as one of my fav subjects and in real life. As you can see there’s a crystal case with a plant, this kind of structures are magical in some ways for me. The union of crystal and forging is an art and looking to something frail as crystal with something strong as metal amazed me (not to say when there’s colored crystal :white_heart:). The small sculptures in the ground are lovely and thought it was perfect as something magical. The stairs is a way of inviting you to this moodboard :star2:

Hope you like it and if you’re inspired do some art. Thank you :white_heart:

This immediately screamed “Fairy Tale” to me haha

To add some extra info that i got looking around:

The house, specifically the one in the pic, seems to be Weinhardt Mansion, built in the Gingerbread style (something new to me).

The little statues appear to be Jizo statues, belonging to a buddhist tradition (very touching one - i encourage take a look about it). Those ones appear to be in Kyoto, in a temple called Sanzen-in.

Then, you have the glass containers for plants, terrarium, greenhouses… Don’t know where that one fits - it looks gorgeous, by the way.

Thank you so much @Sioni for the selection and effort put into these, they are much appreciated

Thank you @Tamoha for your contribution to the challenge :white_heart:

Yeah, you’re right. This moodboard is asking for a fairytale illustration

My rough idea, a giant statue caged in a terrarium-like building. I played around a bit with using patterns, most obviously the rocks in the bottom of the building. What the statue is and what it’s doing imprisoned there sounds like it could be the subject of some fairy tale, but I did not write anything to go with it, so it remains a mystery.

My entry for July’s moodboard challenge, when all the references were buildings I was confused about what to make, what to stack, how to make the details and more. Because of my confusion above, I finished the image below in less than an hour. :kiki_upside_down:

But this is a good moodboard, I learned a lot from this. :kiki_love:

Idea: a futuristic and auspicious traditional building.

Sometimes when your references are not related to characters you can always use part of the references as some kind of pattern/motif in clothes, props, etc. Anyways it’s really good to change sometimes and do backgrounds. I’m specialized in characters and I realize while experimenting and doing backgrounds to that it’s a really good exercise to go out of your comfort zone. I’m happy to see what you do and I hope you enjoy it :white_heart:
