My entry. Scuba Cats. A pair of cats on a Scuba Diving adventure, searching for lost treasures from the S.S. Catnip which sank in a storm many years ago.
I’ve tried many times to play around with the concept of a fantasy forest so the “something unexpected” it was easy to shift that idea to an under water fantasy. Which of course HAD to include cats. One could easily have gone overboard adding more and more elements to this, but I didn’t want to overwhelm things. But the idea would make for a fun hidden objects picture.
edit I used the Gmic filter in multiple places, not even realizing it would fall under part of the optional challenge. Using filters also makes it easy to simply copy a layer of the coral and use filters to adjust the color to create something very different.

Wow! what a coincidence. I also got inspiration from the moon. 
This was a fun prompt. I used the half tone and overlay filters a little.
I also challenged myself to use one brush. (Awez basic texture blocker)

I’ve played around with so many filters and adjustments here… too many to mention. The biggest one was the G’Mic Drops filter. It plooped in the stone pattern that I later painted over. Without playing with that, I wouldn’t have even thought of placing the stones! WIPs and more info in the discussion thread.

Thanks for the fun topic and challenge @npc ! Lots of symbolism in this one… I usually don’t play around with that too much, but it felt right at home with this topic.

Hey! I managed to finish my entry in between the daily heat strokes! 
Maybe working on an icy illustration unconsciously helped with it!
As you can see, I simply placed the giraffe of the introductory example in an even more unexpected setting, and I hope I managed to capture the cuteness of the baby seal.
About the optional challenge, it was hardly a challenge for me because I’ve been using filters for all my illustrations for a long time (mostly to enhance contrasts), but it’s nice to promote this great tool for people who don’t know it yet!

i didin really know what i wanted to do but i was skethcing mushrroms earlier so idk
done completely on krita over 2 hours, used refs for the clouds but thats it. I was experimenting with the lasso tool cuz im dont really use it, turns out ITS FREAKING AWEOMS??? i need to use lasso more
