So I am someone who has practically to experience in art but want to do some. My idea is trace enough work and get some skill.
this is my first time trying at opacity 30 %
Second try at same opacity
Third try with opacity 20%
So my idea here is doing at 10% next then using a reference at my phone without having the picture in layer. Then doing the same with other body parts and facial expressions.
Can I actually make something this way or I am doing this all wrong.
When you trace a lot you will mostly only get good at tracing. It doesn’t help you if you don’t know why the original artist put a line there and in other cases not. While it can teach you pen control you will never learn line confidence, understanding of anatomy and when and what to simplify without losing what you actually want to portray. Especially in a lot of anime and cartoon styles simplification is an important skill. My point is that tracing doesn’t develop understanding a lot.
Tracing isn’t actually a very good way to learn. It has its uses, but certainly is not for learning.
Just directly go to copying and using reference. This is not enough though. You also really need to study other things like anatomy.
You can make something but what you want is learn how to make art, then this is not the wayl. You would not learn how to make art but trace/copy other people’s art instead.
