Keyboard not opening in tablet mode 2 in 1 laptop

Hello when I put my x380 laptop in tablet mode krita is not allowing the touch screen keyboard to open to adjust settings any ideas?

What about clicking the menu with your finger, your stylus, your mouse instead of using a virtual keyboard? Does that work?
Or does your keyboard not open?

yah sorry if I wasnt clear the touch screen keyboard does not pop up and if I try to tap it in the taskbar then the cursor comes out of the menu and the menu closes so what i type doesn’t effect anything

I can only suggest trying a different virtual keyboard. I like Click’n’Type and Free Virtual Keyboard, both are older and look aged, but they are free of charge and do their job. There are other virtual keyboards but have different quirks.
And there is a keyboard named Hot Virtual Keyboard, it is about €/$30, and all users I know of are extremely happy with it, you can test it free of charge for 30 days but in my eyes I find 30 bucks far too much.

on windows?
but I never had this problem with any other software…

I’m not exactly sure but this could be happening when Krita is not using WinTab because then Windows doesn’t know the application is running in tablet mode and to show the on-screen keyboard. (But honestly I’m only guessing. I did a web search and some other applications seem to have this issue too.)

Maybe you try to open your keyboard at first and start Krita afterward. With a little luck it will work then. But it is a guess …

@Takiro, for these 2-in-1 devices you usually better don’t use WinTab, because by far the most of them use WindowsInk. So, yes it can work, but it is likely breaking the stylus’s function.
But who knows without trying? So it is at least an idea to try.

I tried to restart the computer and my keyboard opened when setting up the project in krita but alas when I want to edit the length of my animation the keyboard does not open. It kinda makes it useless for me unfortunately as I need to be able to work on krita in tablet mode :frowning:

it does the same thing on my android tablet so this software is broken as far as i am concerned its unusable

the keyboard never opens if I want to edit any settings on both the windows and android krita, I click into a setting to edit, say the length of the animation or the name of the layer and the keyboard wont open.

I’ve never actually been able to use krita there is always some bug stopping me from the simplest useage of the software its frustrating :frowning: Dunno how this can be released as stable.

Your second post has been merged into the original one you posted.

tried changing to wintab no luck

so neither android or windows can open the keyboard to adjust settings for me making it impossible for me to work on krita :frowning:
is no one else in the whole work having the same problem?

Unfortunately, it seems to be solitary to you.

The thing is it happens to you, and you can only find out if my hint helps if you try.¹

But I have a question, this virtual keyboard, is it the original Windows Virtual Keyboard or is it supplied by your x380 laptop?
I’m asking because you mentioned Android, did you perhaps use the Android mode from Windows 11 on the same laptop?

Try the following on Windows, use this keyboard shortcut WinKey + R and enter osk into the input line and hit your Enter-Key, this will start the native Windows Virtual Keyboard. Is that the same Virtual Keyboard you talk about?

¹ You may want to try the following options (not all are free, but can be tested if I’m not mistaken):

But it’s the same problem in android and windows versions of krita. I mean native android on my tablet.

I’m using standard windows virtual keyboard.

I feel like I’m cursed when it comes to krita I really want the power it provides but there always seems to be a big preventing me from using it :frowning:

I will try what you suggested in a couple hours thank you.

Is it possible that you set Krita into an always on top mode?
There are several helper-programs that can do this, and, in between modern versions of Windows, can do it too, if you use the Windows PowerToys extension “Always on Top”. If that is the case, then no other program, not even a virtual keyboard, that is made to be displayed on top of other software, can override this setting and thus won’t be displayed on top of Krita in your case.

no its just windows I never have any issues with virtual keyboard before, plus I have the identical issue on my android tablet, click in text box to change setting no keyboard appears

yes its the native keyboard I have used windows for years I have not installed any other keyboard I have never had any problem with my keyboard opening in tablet mode. Same problem is in android so its krita not the OS / Keyboard

This is stopping me from being able to use krita on my android tablet and my 2 in 1 laptop so I made a bug report:
498200 – Virtual keyboard will not open when attemnpting to type into text input box on android and windows touch screens.

They have done an update on the 29th of jan 2025 and this resolved my issue with the keyboard not opening so now I have finally work on krita i am very excited thanks !! This thread is resolved and can be closed.
