It’s driving me crazy, since two or 3 versions, I can’t see the preview of the .kra files anymore in MacOS and Windows. Am I the only one?
I’ve had this problem on my system as well. (macOS 10.13.6)
Workaround by deleting the QuickLook plugin from Krita.app/Contents/Library/QuickLook/kritaquicklook.qlgenerator. Then copy kritaquicklook.qlgenerator from version 4.4.1(I believe) to ~/Library/QuickLook
I’m on 4.4.3 on Windows and preview is showing for me.
When you open the KRA file as a an archive, does it still contain a preview.png?
Also I don’t know if Mac has this too, but on my Linux the file browser doesn’t show previews for files greater than a certain size (3 MB by default), I had to crank it up so it shows previews for bigger files.
Hi
It seems @amyspark fixed a bug for the same problem in february (for the MacOS part; for windows I don’t know)
Bug is still here?

For windows, on my side the shell extension is working properly.
Maybe uninstall/reinstall it could solve the problem?

Yesterday I installed Linux (KDE Neon) and had that problem, .kra files did not have preview, I found that if I untick the zip64 option in krita and save the file again, it shows the preview.
In Windows previews are working fine for me.
The bug fix from @IvanYossi landed on nightly master build, if I recall correctly (I’ve been busy a lot with life stuff).
@IvanYossi or @halla , does any of you know if this is available on stable nightly?
I don’t think we handle Neon previews ourselves - can you file a bug so that we can triage it during our next weekly meeting?
For me, at home on Linux KDE Neon, are fine, at the office Win 10 are fine too! Version 4.4.3
I actually don’t know how to file a bug, I know that a mouth ago when I was trying a few distros of Linux (Kde Neon, Manjaro, I don’t remember the name of the third one), none of them showed a preview for files created with Zip64 turned on.
The bug fix is only available on master, afair there are no plans on releasing another bugfix release for 4.x series so this means the fix for preview will land until 5.0 is out.
Thanks for the responses.
Ok, I tried to rename to .zip. The preview.png is there.
It shows on MacOS, Though, only as a thumbnail small image. Before 4.2, it was possible to use the MacOS preview (space) to open a bigger preview. Not sure why it changed.
Though for some it doesn’t work sometimes. If I rename them to .zip and extract them, they don’t open but create a name.zip.cpgz
On Window, the preview doesn’t show at all. But when enabling the Zip64 option in Krita it works again, but have to open the file and resave it.
Is it related to this?
Preview on the desktop? Did you install Windows Shell Extension?
The built-in macOS Archive Utility can be a bit picky. Works with ‘The Unarchiver’ though (or another similar app perhaps).
I am on Windows and with Krita 4.4.3 and everything seems fine with KRA previews.
@IvanYossi might know more.
krita versions >=4.2 [4.0] have the quicklook component broken, which makes full size previews imposible to show. This is fixed in krita 5, We did not catch the bug quick enough so we missed it to include it in official releases of krita 4.x series. Afaik we will make a bugfix release of macOS for this particular reason and a random crash. However you can download the latest krita plus (latest stable) if you don’t want to wait for an official release to have those changes, note that the version will be 4.4.4-alpha: Krita_Stable_MacOS_Build [Jenkins]
