First off, congrats. The text tool especially is a fantastic addition and a game-changer.

Unfortunately neither installer works for me on Windows 11. They both “failed to remove the previous version”. I’m going to try and remove it manually, then attempt another install.

Ok, I can’t uninstall 5.2. Windows blocks the uninstaller and there’s no way around it. Why, microsoft ? why ?

Ok, solved. For anyone else encountering this, I had to disable a thing called “smart app control” which is found in “Windows security”. Once this is disabled, I can uninstall Krita 5.2 and install the new version. In fact, I suppose it was this thing which made the new version install fail silently. Good [redacted] god

Woohoo, excited for this update. Pop-up palette docker is magic for my canvas view setup on android. Thanks for the hard work, so many good updates this release!

I second this. This was a god send in my tiny android.

The text tool looks awesome too, but I haven’t had the chance to play with it.

Will this be on steam soon?

Once they fix the issues with it, yes
Should be either still in this week or a few days after

Welp.
It has been released with a laggy UI issue, which I believe has been fixed only the day before yesterday. The 26th of this month to be exact.

The previous version runs like a charm, but the latest version completely wrecks my PC’s performance, and I don’t understand why.

 Hello @irisring543, and welcome to the forum!

Go to this post and download that bug fix version from there or wait a week or so for the official update:

Hi, all!

If someone still has this slowdown issue, please download the upcoming 5.3.1 package from here, it has a fix for that: link

UPD:

It might also be nice to test them before the actual release

Awesome update! The new text workflow is amazing! The previous workflow was a bit tedious, to be honest. Now Krita has become a really powerful design tool for text-related work!

I’m also loving the Propagate Colors filter , is really helpful for game development!

Thanks to the team for their awesome work!

It works perfectly! So far, I haven’t had any problems—no more lag in the menus.

Edit: I found another issue—the pop-up menu on the toolbar doesn’t fit the tool options.

The ‘Text Tool’ has a larger font size in the ‘Tool Options’ compared to other tools.

was there anything for animation? I looked through and didnt see anything, but just wanted to ask just to make sure.

The changelog specifies that holding Ctrl+Alt with free transform will allow you to rotate the transform box, but it simply does nothing for me? Is this a bug?

I also can’t find a keybind entry for it at all, so I can’t even check that it’s using the right keycodes.

EDIT: tested on both 5.3 and 6.0, works on neither.

The associated canvas input is under Alternate Invocation, “Sample Foreground Color from Current Layer” or “Sample Background Color from Current Layer”. The former is bound to Ctrl+Alt+Left Click by default, which is where the manual claims come from. I don’t know how intentional that actually is, it might come from some incorrect naming in the code, but I’ve submitted a correction to the manual in that regard.
