Krita 5 two instances at the same time

I want to run Krita from Windows store and run another copy (portable one) - basically, I want to draw in two apps in parallel.

I cannot find the settings that let enable multiple instances. Is there a way to do it?

Thanks in advance

EDIT: Window - New Window does not fit for me, since I want to start app from different executables.

I don’t know the answer but I do know that I had a very very strange problem a couple of days ago with my stylus and mouse intermittently functioning…and now believe it may have had to do with two instances of Krita or Wacom/Mouse drivers running simultaneously… Can’t confirm for certain and not going to try it again…I think I may have somehow brought up two instances of Krita (on Win 11) but accident…on started but while waiting on it to start I started another one (or double clicked the taskbar startup…dunno…)

Once I shut down and restarted my machine I have not had the same problems.

Classic. If you have a problem on Windows, just reboot.
Thanks for reminding me about that. I will give it a try.

Hi, we had to disable the ability to have two seperate instances because the new resource system doesn’t allow for it (the sql database can’t handle being accessed by two seperate instances of Krita). Given how many bugs are fixed by the resource rewrite, we felt this was a reasonable trade-off.

Ha! Yes. The Three Finger Salute!

Hmm. Are WindowsApp and portable versions looking at the same database?

You can do a runas in windows to execute 2 instance of Krita

They should. If they don’t then that’s a bug.

Grumm’s advice shouldn’t work, because we explicitly check if there’s a copy of Krita running while running Krita and if so close the program.

Understood. Thanks for clearing this one out

Yes, no problem, only some little precautions and the need to choose the “preferred” installation.

On a PC with sufficient system resources, some parallel installations are possible - I have had up to 9 instances running at the same time (for demonstration purposes).

Edit/Add: 7 Instances at the same time on one PC, from Krita 3 to Krita 5.

It works as long as the installations are on separate user-accounts.

Yeah, well, I’m not certain, but am fairly confident that I somehow had dual instances running under Win 11 that caused major issues with stylus/cursor lagging/freezing.

On linux (manjaro) I run multiple instances of Krita by setting different HOME variables. Then there is no collision between them.

It’s the same principle in the end.
