Krita App - Cannot Find Root Error - Files keep corrupting

I’ve used Krita on pc’s for years before and recently decided to get a Samsung Tab 10FE to draw on the go.

My Krita is fully updated and my Samsung 10FE software is fully updated and it is: UI 8.0, Android 16, Current version X520XXU4BYJ2/ X520OXM4BYJ2 /

So far pretty much every file I tried to work on can be saved and reopened once or twice but eventually gives me a “cannot find root” message. From what I researched this can be caused by Krita not being able to properly access files.

When I tried to give the app permission to access files apparently Krita does not need any file permissions so I couldn’t do it to prevent it happening again. This seems very odd as Krita core functions like saving files, opening, recording and extracting needs to access file folders to do so?

I tried to recover the lost files by recovering it into a zip and restoring it. This allowed me to recover a merged image (from the zip) but not the .kra file and layers.

As every file, new or old, keeps corrupting like this I can’t do much progress on anything.

Hi @Sleepy_Sheepy

I got around this by creating a new directory in Internal storage called Documents. Then I made subfolders (like Krita, HiPaint, Sketchbook, etc.) and I make sure Krita always stores .kra files and png and jpg files in my Krita folder and not in any other area.

I’ll also ping @drawpile for this.

Where are you trying to save them?

Thank you for the reply! So far I’ve been able to use the same files over a course of few days so I think it’s fixed.

At first (before I made the post) I tried bunch of things to see what would work as it was my first time using the app version. I tried a shared file from google drive as well as saving it in internal tablet storage. When I tried to make a folder in the folder tabs (docs, pictures music ect) that corrupted as well.

(after the reply’s) Making a krita folder in document folder works so far!

Can this same folder be used for recording the time lapses since it creates a folder of the images or will it cause trouble with the files?

I haven’t had any file problems since I created and faithfully used the new folder I created.

Note that Krita, every now and then, still wanted to save new files in a bad location, so be sure to check the entire file path each time you save something new or when you designate the folder to receive the snapshots from the recorder.
