Krita input progressively breaks over time (all versions, no consistent trigger)

I’ve been experiencing a bug for several months now where Krita’s inputs progressively stop working over time. Specifically all shortcuts for zooming in and out except ctrl + = and ctrl + -. This includes keyboard shortcuts and tablet shortcuts like pan/scroll. It also includes rotating the canvas with the mouse but not rotating the canvas through ctrl + [ and ctrl + ]. It happens across every version I’ve tried including 5.x, 5.4.0-prealpha, and Krita 6, and persists through reinstalls, so it doesn’t seem to be version or installation specific.

What happens:
Inputs don’t all break at once. It starts small for example zoom stops working, or panning stops working. Then if I try to use something that’s already broken, it seems to cause more things to break, until almost nothing is working. It always happens between actions rather than mid-action, so an action that has already started will complete, but starting a new one fails.

After a while it will just… resolve on its own. Sometimes it’s gone for a month, then it comes back. There’s no consistent trigger for it starting or stopping.

The things that sometimes trigger it:
• Randomly mashing buttons on the keyboard
• Being afk
• Tabbing to other programs
• playing games with krita opened in the background
• Opening programs like task manager and settings

What I’ve ruled out:

  • Tablet drivers / tablet hardware: happens with tablet fully unplugged, drivers manually closed, no tablet service running, just mouse and keyboard
  • Always-on-top applications: happens without them too
  • Windows Update activity: updates are essentially manual, no background update activity
  • Screensaver / power management: neither are in use
  • Modifier key phantom holds: pressing all modifier keys during the issue does nothing
  • Clicking the canvas to restore focus: does not help
  • Switching windows and back: does not trigger or fix it
  • GPU/tablet driver updates: same drivers throughout, no changes between when it starts and stops
  • Windows Ink interference: happens regardless

System:
Windows 11 Pro 24H2, AMD Ryzen 5 5600X, Rx 6600, Huion Kamvas 16 (2021)

 Hello @Lavender2, and welcome to the forum!

It is only a guess, you don’t use Discord or the Tencent chat apps QQ or WeChat?
These are known for breaking Krita’s (and other programs) accessibility.

Hi, yes. I do use discord

Then try if it fixes Krita when you terminate Discord while painting, if you are lucky that is the reason (and these apps often are the reason, but not always).
