I am trying to apply very simple filters but it is so laggy. I’ve maxed out resources to use in graphics settings but that didn’t help. Is this normal? This doesn’t happen on Photoshop.

I have Intel I5 14500HX & RTX 4050 & 16GB Ram
Hello @fisekoo and welcome to the forum ![]()
Your video capture doesn’t show the status bar which would give useful information such as canvas size and colour space/profile.
Also, the number of layers could have a large effect if there are many of them.
Please provide a full screen screenshot to show that, with the Layers docker fully visible.
Also, you could show a screenshot of the graphics settings that you’ve adjusted.
Somebody who knows about that area might then be able to give advice.
Krita and Photoshop have no relation to each other.
Hey, thanks! Here is a full recording.

Canvas size: 2048x2048 (but it happens in 1024x1024 too)
I have 4 layers visible.
Settings:
as I said, I’ve tried to max out all of those but still no help.
I was trying to say that I’m not having those performance issues in other softwares, only in Krita.
I think it’s normal, it just won’t be smoother than that. This is a filter preview, it’s not optimized for realtime speed.
This is an unfortunate situation. I’m a VFX artist and sometimes I have to apply certain effects by trial and error to get the look I want. And that makes it really hard and slow to work on.
I really like Krita for texture drawing, it is an amazing tool. I hope someday they will fix this.
Research is currently being carried out into how some things in Krita can be accelerated with the multi-parallel computing power of today’s GPUs, I can’t say for sure whether the area you mentioned is one of them, but something is happening under the hood.
However, there is something I would like to point out.
Many of the comparisons of other programs with Krita ignore the fact that these programs were often only developed for one or a maximum of two operating systems and optimized accordingly, and often by multi-billion dollar corporations. Krita has to work on Android, ChromeOS, Linux, macOS and Windows, Haiku also seems to be added to this list, at least it was tested, and all this is done by well under 10 developers who are dependent on the willingness of users to donate.
If I call this in mind, I believe Krita to be an extraordinary well performing software.
