Very creative use of layer styles! I’ll have to give this a shot when I get home

wooooow, so cool

Nice, thank for sharing.

Wow, this is actually really cool!

Could you possibly make and share a template .kra file already set up? Might be easier for beginners who might not understand the layer styles and how they work yet.

Layer styles are really laggy currently.
I think Krita might just need its pixel and maybe vector rendering engines to be further optimized or simply faster and
more tolerable with bigger canvas size(performance still decent with a 6000x6000 pixels image.
For comics, I just hope the devs and the community will help, by studying Clip Studio’s Frame manager and see if they can create something of their own that is similar or better than in
Clip Studio.
As far as I know, it’s possible to use a selection and create the frame with it with it in CSP.
You can also add/delete gutters without necessarily using a line tool. Plus the gutters themselves can be sized however you want them.
Ontop of all these, Clip Studio Paint’s frame manager is flexible, intuitive and very suitable for a non-destructive workflow. I hope Krita can do the same if not better, one day.

Not the OP (and this is basically a year late) but I went ahead and made a template .kra for this.

How to use:

  • Use vector tools (ex. the line tool) to make divisions on the layer labelled “Borders”.
  • Draw on the layers below them.
  • Optionally, select the areas in-between the borders using the wand tool and use transparency mask to make alpha-layers for panels.
  • Edit the borders by using the layer styles menu on the Borders layer or with the vector selection tool.
    Enjoy!
