Welcome to the third edition of Krita weekly development update, brought to you by the @Krita-promo team!
The meeting was initiated and led by @Wolthera. You can check out the copy of the full meeting document here. Being the week after a release, this meeting was a short one.
Highlights of this week
- Lots of online buzz about Clip Studio Paint moving to a subscription model - including an article on The Verge saying “Those outraged by the decision are recommending a similar digital illustration app, Krita, as an alternative.” The article includes a tweet from Emmet O’Neill.
- Ramon reports the pencil brushes released last week have been well received. He is preparing to release a video featuring these brushes later this week and reports good showcase results.
- Tiar has finished adding new parameters to the MyPaint engine, fixed a regression in the Line Tool (ignoring pressure events), and is currently working on adding Concentric Ellipses in Perspective Ellipse Assistant. See here for the K-A conversation.
- Reinold is working on the svgExport class functionality and doing discovery on how the kis node visitor works.
- Xuche rewrote his ellipse code, tiar suggested he should start unit testing, which means to ensure nothing else was accidentally broken, and documentation.
- Amyspark is working on AVIF/HEIF acceleration and a G’MIC update once a couple of bugs are sorted out.
- Ivan is investigating why touch gestures are not working by default on macOS.
- YouTube subscribers: 56,300 (up from 55,800).
- Reddit subscribers: 65,483 (up from 65,353)
In summary
Many key devs are taking a much needed break, so not much has happened this week. The devs that are still hard at work have been fixing bugs and working on optimizations left and right. With the recent influx of people moving over from other art programs in need of advice, be sure to be helpful and welcoming!
