Krita Weekly Update - August 2022 week 35

Welcome to the fourth edition of the Krita weekly development update brought to you by the @Krita-promo team!

Some of the developers were absent due to family vacation, illness or personal circumstances. The meeting was led by Amyspark.

What’s happening in Krita this week

  1. There is a new contributor working on importing and converting PSD documents with clipping masks into Krita’s inherit alpha to make things easier (psd clipping layers import improvement (!1561) · Merge requests · Graphics / Krita · GitLab). Although it might be replaced by the new clipping mask behavior overhaul which this community is heavily discussing - Potential improvements to Inherit Alpha in Krita - it is aimed to be up for 5.2 release.

  2. Amyspark has submitted preliminary work for running Krita efficiently on various platforms for review. And the code for faster loading of AVIF/HEIC file format is also ready.

  3. Emmet and Eoin are back from vacation and this week they worked making sure Krita will be able to be compiled without the new optional dependency required for supporting audio in animation.

  4. In addition to mentoring, Tiar worked on concentric perspective ellipses to ensure they can be saved and opened, and that the hyperbole can be drawn over the canvas.

  5. XuChe’s work on pixel perfect ellipses is going well. There are still many things left in this project.

  6. Shazam fixed some bugs, and is looking into a serious bug on certain Android Samsung devices. Please help him to test this, details are in this post.

  7. Reinold continued their work on exporting the kra file as svg.

  8. Deif Lou worked on adding some new features for coloring lineart with the Fill Tool; the ability to stop Grow Selection at the darkest pixels and the ability to Fill or Select within the boundaries of a certain color.

In summary

Vacations, much needed and well-deserved, continue for some of the dev team. As you can see, the progress doesn’t stop.

Please keep helping all the new people who are trying Krita for the first time and may not be familiar with how our community works.
