After saving a file in the krita format, krita was unable to open the file and the file read as corrupt. I tried changing the format from .kra to .zip and .pdf with no effect. None of my other file viewers are able to access the corrupt documents. This has happened with the past several files saved on krita. I would like to recover these files if possible and prevent this from happening again. I am using the newest version of krita (5.15) on an android tablet.
Hello @Ava_Ondis, and welcome to the forum!
Were these large files, from the disk space required?
Can you remember if the save process for this file(s) took a lot of time?
Do you know if there was a colored bar over this display in Kritaâs status bar, where the image size in pixels and memory requirements in MB or GB are displayed?
Have you tried working on backup copies of the apparently corrupt files, using archive repair software such as âZip Repairâ, âZipfixâ, or the repair function of programs such as âWinRARâ or â7ZIPâ to repair your KRA files? Please donât try to repair a file without having a backup of the file you try to resurrect, this can be hazardous!
Can you send us one or more of your corrupt files via a file sharing service, a website, a file hosting service, so that we can possibly find out what makes them unreadable for your Krita, if you are unable to fix them?
By the way, you wonât accomplish anything with the change to PDF, KRA files are not interpretable by PDF programs, but with the renaming to ZIP you can view their contents unless the files are corrupt.
I will be absent for at least the next 90 minutes, possibly much longer.

Hi Michelist, thank you for your reply.
The largest file is 248 MB and the smallest is 112 MB.
The saving process took longer than usual and the application was lagging. I believe i was having internet issues as well.
I do not recall a colored bar of image size or pixel requirements. I have worked on backup copies of the files saved by krita, but i can no longer access these as well after saving manually. I have not tried to repair any of the files.
I will try to send one of the corrupt files as soon as i can.
Thank you for your feedback.
Have you tried opening them in a computer?
I think itâs not related to internet issues if you saved it to local storage. Or did you save it to cloud folder like G drive?
Are you opening those file from inside krita (File > Open) or from android file explorer? Android file explorer might be not recognize krita file.
Iâve not tried opening the files on a computer. I saved it to local storage. Krita was unable to recognize the format and my file viewer said the files were corrupt.
I can share using google drive. What email should i share to?
You can âShare with everyoneâ which is an option when getting a Google Drive link.
That way anyone can download it without needing a gmail address to log in.
