Kuybyshev from Azur Lane

After almost exclusively drawing anime girls since I started learning drawing I still feel like I’m somehow better with machines, which is pretty weird since I almost never practice drawing machines. Kind of feel like I’m really not made for drawing stuff from things where my actual interests are, as degenerate those might be.
Well, at least I think on a technical level this one turned out quite good. The rigging looks bright in the center and just overall intimidating, the snow has some nice motion blur on it and the painted in motion blur on the rigging doesn’t look too out of place. But still, it feels like something is still missing…

I’m liking it a lot! And your pixiv account looks great, too. Unfortunately, I can’t offer critique, as I lack expertise and ability to back it up. :stuck_out_tongue: I guess keep at it and you’re destined for greatness?

There’s nothing to be ashamed of. Drawing a cute anime waifu is like a “hello world” of anime-stylized illustration, if I may use that programming analogy!

Sometimes that feeling of “something is missing” is justified. In the case of your drawing, it is not. If you’ve placed the right elements, in the right places, and your design is getting the message across that you wanted… it’s done.

Thank you for the words of encouragement!
I’m not actually too ashamed of my interests. I’m just a bit frustrated that I’m better at drawing subject matter that I have barely practiced and have no interest in. But I guess people generally don’t get too choose what they are good in. Maybe, the only way out is just keeping at the grind.

By “something missing” I actually didn’t mean a concrete element or object that is missing in the picture, but “something missing” in my skill set. I always wonder if there is a fundamental that I glossed over, or there is just something that I don’t understand. Perhaps, it might not even be something I can attain by learning and studying, but only via grindy practice, like fine motor control.

I do not know if I understand…

You had mentioned machines and I remembered a Tumblr blog where the author posts images of amazing machines. Perhaps you will find inspiration there. Unfortunately that blog has been abandoned since 2020.
