Layer Styles Performance and difference to Photoshop

Hello I was looking through some old layer styles I bought off Graphic River several years ago (30 Freehand Ink and Other Artistic Styles by dekurvajo | GraphicRiver) when I still used to use Photoshop. I tried them out because I was experimenting at the time but I drew the conclusion that they were not really practical to use in real time drawing because they increase the lag significantly. Best used post effect.

I thought I would see if they worked in Krita this morning just out of curiosity and I was really impressed. The performance is really slow for lots of layer styles in Krita though compared to Photoshop so it wouldn’t be practical to use lots and lots of them at once.

I also tried them in Affinity Photo but it didn’t work as well, although it worked faster because a lot of the more performance heavy effects didn’t work.

I noticed looking at the Krita version and the screenshot on Graphic River that some of the styles didn’t look exactly the same, but it was pretty close.

My question is,

1: are the layer styles FX effects going to be improved in terms of performance and speed in future versions of Krita?

2: I’m also wondering if it is possible to save a layer style or copy and paste a style for use in a different document.
Thanks

We’re not currently planning to work on layer styles at all, so any performance improvements would be accidental. And if we’re going to work on them, I think the first priority would be to add the missing bits, including copy and paste of layer styles. Saving them should work, though.
