Lively Mermaid (Character Concept)

As I explained in another post, I really enjoy the fantasy concept of an underwater world, so I’ve done several pieces with that theme – mostly characters, since I have more experience with that than environments yet.

This one was, pure and simple, a character concept that I put a bit of work into. I was trying to convey a happy, lively, sweet young mermaid. I’m not too good with poses yet, but I was hoping to elicit a ‘natural’ pose – something akin to ‘standing’ for a mermaid.

Done with a Huion New 1060 PLUS drawing tablet on a PC. Krita version was probably whatever was current at the time (did the bulk of the work last fall/winter, put the finishing touches on it recently).

Thanks @kayleej for the share! I took a glance at it, and it looks really in-depth (which is nice). When I start trying my hand at environments, I’ll definitely come back to it!

The tail work on this be bootiful! O3O/) :sparkles: :sparkling_heart: :sparkles:

Thank you so much @ArtsySock! I put special focus into the rendering on her tail. I took inspiration from Betta fish for the texture of the fins and combined that with the common fishtail shape. So glad you find it beautiful, thanks again!
