Loss of accuracy on the canvas regarding small pen movements

Type of device* : Graphic tablet
Brand and version of the device: Huion Inspiroy H950P
System** : Windows 10.0.19043

I was painting on Krita 5.0 yesterday when I suddenly noticed a loss of accuracy on the canvas. For some reason, very fine movements with the pen on my tablet don’t seem to be registered precisely on the canvas anymore. Small circles or lines (couple of pixels big) are delayed by fractions of seconds and aren’t as precise, sometimes only remanining as dots. It may seem like a small change but it’s really throwing off the painting process.

Anyways, I’ve uninstalled Krita 5.0 et installed the latest version (5.1.1) but the loss of accuracy is still there. At first I thought it was something to do with my tablet and/or pen but they are working perfectly in Photoshop or other painting softwares like Toon Boom Harmony, TV Paint or ArtRage. Back in Krita, I checked the Tablet Settings and noticed in the Tablet Tester that everything is working just fine. My pen and tablet input are very precise in the Tablet Tester, but when I go back to the canvas and try and paint with any brush again the loss of accuracy is still there.

I’ve been using Krita 5.0 for many months prior and everyhting was fine until yesterday when it happened suddenly while painting. I haven’t changed any of my settings and can’t find if anything was changed without my notice. Any help and suggestions would be very much appreciated!

I wonder if your drivers were impacted by a Windows update (the other programs may not show a change if they don’t rely on device drivers the way Krita does). You might consider uninstalling and then reinstalling your drivers (follow the tablet manufacturer’s instructions when it comes to the order of operations). Some find they even need to restart pc after this as well.

Try checking the Smoothing in your brush tool options, in case you haven’t already. The issue regarding small pen movements makes me believe you activated stablization somehow.

That was it! For some reason I changed the Brush Smoothing unknowingly, maybe by typing a keyboard shortcut or something else. It was so simple I didn’t even think of it.

Thanks a lot!

I installed the latest driver but nothing changed. The problem was the Brush Smoothing in the Tool Options that changed, maybe by typing a keyboard shortcut unknowingly. It was so simple I didn’t even think of it.

Thanks a lot for your suggestion nonetheless!

Ah, I didn’t even think of that. Good detective work.
