Making and testing the Android build from source?

I can verify this works!

On another note, I don’t think it has been mentioned yet but the built-in comic templates don’t seem to work properly (Galaxy Tab S3, play store apk from June 1st). The panels borders are invisible, and I cannot seem to draw anything on any of the paint layers.
Strangely, creating a new empty file and adding vector layers there seems to work perfectly fine. Has anyone else encountered this?

Yes, this has been recently discovered by our developers. You can follow the issue here: 422312 – Krita for Android opens vector layers as empty.

Hi Guys,

So excited to find out the new port. I just posted a feature request to have the Android version offically support the SonarPen, a very affordable pressure sensitive stylus that I have developed. The SonarPen is compatilble with any Android device that has a capacitive touch screen, and will turn it into a drawing pad.

For those who has the programming talent and interested in adding support of SonarPen to the Android port, please contact me. Android SDK and sample is ready.

Apologies for this relatively unimportant tangent: But now that Krita for Android is very much a go, is it possible to package the Linux version for ARM? For the Raspberry Pis and running natively on Chromebooks (not that there’s proper stylus support yet) etc.

I’m hesitant to do so because, well, I don’t want to deal with complaints about Krita’s performance on underpowered hardware like the raspberry pi, and then again, given that the performance will be so bad that it’ll be hard to actually use Krita, I’m not sure it’s worth the effort.

That makes sense. My main reason for asking has always been the ARM Chromebooks, but now that the Android versions runs just fine on them, there’s even less of a reason to ask really. :+1:

(Not to mention the Linux layer on Chromebooks still can’t do stylus input right.)

I have i little problem: with finger i can draw a stroke but not single pixel. (I mostly do pixel art in Krita.)

Yet another problem: i can save .kra file to /data but can’t load from it. Considering that i can’t copy files from /data without root now i have lost one of my drawings.

Hello, I got some error.
I uploaded PNG file to work on it and tried to save using icon on toolbar and got this error. This error does not occur when saving by: file>save as>chose format. I don’t really need help fixing it I just wanted to know if it’s something I should report somewhere.
Device: Samsung galaxy Tab s4

Yes please report this bug. Additionally you can follow these steps to get the log, when you try saving: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=424541#c1

Hi, I see in the settings that making the pop-up palette appear with a press of the s-pen button is restricted to certain devices. Apparently the (very recent) tab s6 lite isn’t included. Why is that? Can it be changed? Alternatively, can the pop-up be activated with a soft key? In fact I can’t access it at all, even though it is an indispensable feature. Thanks!
Edit: I just discovered that a single finger press & hold on the screen will activate the pop-up…if anyone is having the same problem.

The S-Pen Actions functionality makes use of Samsung’s “Air Actions” technology, which depends on specific hardware - a bluetooth-enabled S Pen. From what I have read online, the S6 Lite has a stylus that does not support Air Actions.

For tablets that do support Air Actions, you need to enable them for Krita in the device settings: https://www.samsung.com/au/support/mobile-devices/using-the-spen/#air-actions

Clip Studio Paint for Android works by default with the button on the non-Bluetooth stylus of the Tab s6 Lite (as an eraser), so I assume it could be made to work on Krita too.

dear sir, ive installed and used krita for android on my phone (huawei p30 pro)

and hooked up a pen display setting the phone in desktopmode.

krita looks fantastic . and is a real gamechanger.

however as i saw in youtube video by aaron rutten showing of the wacom one connected to his samsung phone having ful pressure sensitivity and tilt support i quickly tried my own pen display.

i have the huion kamvas 13 2020 version. its also got android compatibility (kamvas 13 and wacom one pen displays are currently the only pendisplays that work on android

but im betting more manufactureres will follow as it makes it perfect for on the go and many people are asking about it online)

sadly penpressure is nowhere to be found with the huion kamvas 13 while working with krita for android, even though penpressure works with the following android apps [infinity painter, medibang, huion sketch and corel painter]

full desktop version of krita under android working with pen displays that are compatible with android really is a gamechanger.

i like infinity painter and medibang and they are heralded as the best android drawing apps.

but they dont compare to a full desktop painting program like krita.

is it possible for the development team to look into why the wacom one works with krita for android and the huion kamvas 13 does not , yet both are android compatible.

i hope in future this will be corrected as both pendisplays can run for hours hooked up to a batterypack charger whilst connected to a mobile phone.

you can literally be working on a pendisplay in a desktop/windowslike enviroment in the middle of a forest painting with krita for hours.

i hope someone from the developerteam can adress tis issue

well, pressure variable for external tablet hasn’t been implemented in Qt, yet. But, this would be something easy to add

PS: Wacom One is at odds here, it is surprising that it is able to provide pressure, but my guess is that it sends synthesized events.

ah did not know that, thanks for the reply.
hope its added in future versions.
quite willing to test them with the kamvas 13 pen display.
love the idea of painting on krita on a pendisplay using android somewhere in a field lol

keep up the awesome work

btw this was the video that made me discover krita for android.
Aaron Rutten : Krita for Android on Wacom One - King of the Mobile Art Apps? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lOgQoI8FK20&t=88s
this is why after wacom made a pen display compatible with android and now huion i think this will be pendisplays “next step” (because its yet too expensive to add finger touch to midrange pendisplays and keep the costs low they will promote android compatibility and low power portability) asthe next selling point. wacon and huion 2 biggest sellers of pendisplays stepped in on this feature.
now you dont need a computer per se if you have a good android phone with desktop mode

its why i think android drawing paintings apps need to step it up when you can get fully working windows/mac painting program like krita going on android.

exciting times. , keep up the good work amazed at what you have pulled off so far.

Hello I have been using Krita on my galaxy tab s4 for a while now and would like to report.

S pen support: the s pen is responsive and works well. The pressure sensitivity is without issue.
The s pen on tab s4 does not support air actions only air command, but after turning off the shortcut menu it is possible to pan canvas using the button. The panning is only possible if done so: pan, draw something, pan if one would like to pan continuously the canvas will teleport back to previous panned position.

When opening Krita I often get “Something went wrong…” Which I must say is rather a grim message but I am unable to determine what might cause this message to appear I suspect it may be connected to closing Krita incorrectly, but it’s only my gut feeling.

No hand rejection. Because of the fact that Krita has no hand rejection the stroke pretty often will travel across canvas from my pen to hand causing giant stroke to appear. I realize that this issue is not burning one and will most certainly be fixed later.
Thank you Krita team for developing this amazing app!

This is what happens on my device as well, and what it is, is that Android has a conception of task management, where it sometimes just closes an application it says is currently running and then just reopens when you’re going back to it. But it cannot do that with Krita, so Krita has to do a full start-up, and Android is confused it could not do that to Krita.

I have no idea if we can at all solve this.

I have a bug where when making a stroke a square with the graphic for transparency will appear when touching a different part of the screen the square it will disappear.
Should I report it?
