Greetings everyone. Hope you’re well.
So today, I upload this picture and have a question.
See the part with the textured fade caused by the pen ?
I’d like to ask. Using the digital medium, and especially today’s Krita,
is there a way to achieve similar results using an inking pen ?
After so many years of use with Krita, I still find nothing satisfying in this regards, but refuse
to think that it’s impossible to achieve.
So I’m on a continuous research, and I’d like to have your input on the topic as well
if you don’t mind.
Hi.
It’s little hard to find readymade organic ink pens inside krita, but can be created easily.
At least,it worked for me when I had activated/checked the “pattern” option (and played with the pattern textures and settings a bit) inside “edit brush setting”.
I have added my personal experiment here.
I don’t know if you are looking for something like this.
If not, then don’t worry,it can be done in some other way… you will find it !
At least I hope so !
I’m sure there must be some subtle looks that you’re after with the strokes, so it would be better if you could describe in words besides the images. Because others (me included) might think they got the same look as in the screenshot, but not in your judgement.
Another point would be the behavior of the pen, as one could achieve the same effect but the pen doesn’t works as you expected.
Saying all this I made this pen in a hurry. I must have missed something, because it sure seems to be only a case of using a texture on your pen.
The hard part is finding a good texture that gives that same ‘broken’ effect.
While I would recommend the texture in Height or Hard Mix mode.
You’re welcome to test it.
Be mindful of the blend mode: Alpha Darken. I find a interesting blend mode because overlapping strokes of lesser opacity don’t build up over previous ones that are more dark.
Thank you Daishishi.
With this, the texture issue has a solution.
The next thing now, would be to have a pen that paints only pure black stroke even if it leaves the organic texture on the canvas. It’s personal of course.
And you might think of it as the pen you created, except that even with the fade, the opacity is always full.
Maybe Hard Mix mode or Overlay for the brush pattern.
Yes, if you change the brush I shared above to Texture → Hard Mix (photoshop) and adjust the Strength to your liking you will see that the stroke become fully opaque.
Especially if you put the Flow to 100%.
