Matte Painting with Krita

Hi,
As a concept artist/Mattepainter Ive recently moved over to Krita from Photoshop. I wanted to share the first project using Krita. It isn’t a Lord of the Rings epic-style bunch of shots but it’s more on the stylized side of things for this TVC. I will continue to post work to help promote Krita as an app that is more than capable of professional work in the film and TV industry.

Looking good! I especially like how the background / desert remains interesting with so little actual detail on it.

Having moved from Photoshop to Krita, what do you think are the advantages of each respective software?

Glad you like Krita. What type of painting is this? I can’t tell if it’s a blend of photos mixed with digital painting.

Thanks,
I feel Photoshop has one thing over Krita at the moment, and thats the speed in which it can transform layers (move, rotate, scale, healing, liquify) The effects are way faster in PS (adjustment layer, layer effects). With the tools in Krita it has what I need to do the job. Yes it could use some more (fast) patch repair tools but its possible to get around a lot of that without them. In time Krita will be a no brainer for artists in the media industry to switch to.

I built landscapes and rendered them with Redshift in Maya then added some other elements, sand texures, skies, plants etc in Krita.
