Could the animal(s) be anthropomorphic?
I was organizing my good ol’ Pinterest board that I keep for general research/referencing, and realized that maybe someone else will also find it useful!
Keep in mind though, that this is mostly just a visual organizer for species & connecting them to their latin classification, and the photos might not be under any CC/open licensing!!! Again, this is just so you can perhaps find a visually interesting species or family of animals (at least when it comes to the “ani -” section prefix).
I hope that this form of use still does fit under this forum’s rules, & as general info, I try my best to verify my board for AI images so that it’s actual premise stays true, aka a reference for real life objects, people, animals, etc.
Good luck everyone!!! ![]()
That’s fantastic, thank you so much for sharing! ![]()
As long as the subject looks more animal than human it should be fine ![]()
I’m thinking, animals and patterns? It might be a good time to try a stained glass project in Krita! ![]()
I think the lead is about set up, now to add some color!
I’m guessing the in-between step will be the optional challenge of only of solid flat colours with no shading or blending. To finish it up, there are a few G’Mic filters I want to play with. We’ll see!
Work in progress: “Checkmate”
Octopuses do have an astouding ability to merge with their surroundings. Their skin themself detects what color is beneath it, and adapts acordingly.
Still, some spots are worse than others to hide.
Every day, there are these big, dumb, metallic green beetles that crash into my garage door, then fall on the ground upside down, then struggle to right themselves. They are quite beautiful close-up and I’ve always wanted to paint them. Soooo…. thought I’d try out Krita’s cool multi-brush tool and see if I can make an interesting pattern with them. ![]()
The background is mostly colored in. I’m using the C PaintbrushSpread. And while I’m not using any ‘blending’ in the sense of using blending or smudge brushes, this one has a bit of that built in, I suppose. I guess this version won’t count as solid flat colors… maybe if I have time I’ll redo this with an ink pen and get the optional challenge done.
Your WIP looks so awesome already, though! I really like how it looks so far. It really does remind me of all the stained glass windows I was amazed by when visiting churches as a child.
Throwing my less well-cooked wip to the pile; hard to explain the premise for now, but I promise I’ll explain it later ^^ also you can see how fugly my wips look now woohoo
For a minute I was tempted to keep it as a white tiger…
But after painting a bit more I thik I like the original idea of adding the color to match the background.
I’ve also added in the G’MIC Textured Glass filter on the tiger and the plants. It’s subtle unless you zoom in to see the effect.
I have a few more things to play around with here before I move it over to finished… ![]()
It is better colored, white tigers tend to bite in shoulders, which can end fatally …

This is my WIP
I am nowhere near as talented as those of you who normally enter. but oh well. I am inspired by my favorite YT channel “TinyKittens” from their most recent litters, they had one kitten born with conditions that were not survivable and she only lived 19 days. Everyone on the channel fell in love with little Smudgebob. So my drawing is a tribute to her crossing the rainbow bridge and joining the many other cats and kittens that have crossed before her. Including another famous TinyKittens alumni “Grandpa Mason”. He was a feral that they brought in, an old man of cats, who was found to have a great big love in his heart for caring for kittens and made it his job in life to care for all the kittens that were brought in until he crossed the rainbow bridge.
ohhhh the topic’s so interesting this month and i just… forgot to check it in the beginning of the month. i’ve no decent ideas and the deadline’s prolly not manageable for me currently, but i might attempt to join. always wanted to experiment with patterns lol.
At first I wanted to make a reference of last year participation with the same character, but without the big hat. And for some reason it ended up as a fashion cover sketch.
I started with the serious, and now it’s time to have a bit of fun… like…
What would the De Stijl movement have been like if Theo van Doesburg had cats?
Maybe this cat tree? ![]()
I love it!
