Meditating Alien - WIP

Usually I don’t post work in progress art, but thought I may as well since I just started this new piece and I want to create more art more often, and a WIP page would give me more motivation to create and finish it too.

This is 48 minutes of work. What do you think?

I like it. The background framing angled wide to top gives a sense of motion & dynamic. Something about the position of upper arms and elbows combined with chest shading makes it look he’s sucking belly in and holding breath. So needs to relax into it some more. Neck shading is cavernous, but maybe that is desired, being an alien and all. The face repays study, and zooming in doesn’t wreck that, which was a pleasant discovery.

Thanks, glad you like it so far. I’ll keep your suggestions in mind for the next step. I imagined his back was curved forward which is why I made the stomach so thin, but usually when sitting in this kind of position you stand straight, so good call on relaxing it. I’ve only been away from it for a few hours and can already see things I wish to change.

Latest look. Trying to think of ways to add more intrigue to the picture.

47 minutes of work. Trying to keep track of how long I work on this piece.

Small changes this round that are not to noticeable unless you have a good eye. The environment is this cubey looking structure, I think I’m gonna be adding these floating, gravityless cubes to create the feeling of a more alien looking environment.

31 minutes.

Silently watching and appreciating. Don’t mistake lack of comment for low interest.

A bit more than 48 minutes of work. Close to calling this piece done.

It’s done. I spent probably an hour on the last details. Totaling the time roughly to 4 & 1/2 hours.

Thanks for sharing a few of the steps along the way.

Glad you enjoyed. There were a few more steps I probably could have shown from the very beginning, but didn’t think about at the time. I’ll be doing more WIP posts like this for my future art, since it motivates me to move fast with the piece and actually finish it.

Actually finishing is to be seriously applauded. I admire those who’ve figured out how to manage themselves to do that. it’s a rare experience for me!
