Thought I’d share this piece – I think this was my first big color attempt in Krita, and so far it’s one of my favorites. I finished it last summer.
When it comes to fantasy, I really enjoy the idea of an underwater world, so I did quite a few pieces exploring that concept – mostly from a character standpoint (I’m not really brave enough to try environments too much yet.) I’ll try to share more of them as I have time.
So, as the title suggests, I wanted to do a slice-of-life piece of a couple of mermaid sisters hanging out. They’re kinda like running buddies – they really get along and they’re just having a good time together. I had a lot of fun trying to translate human postures into believable mermaid postures. (Like with the blonde haired sister, trying to convey that care-free ‘feet kicked up behind you’ attitude.)
I had also just learned the concept of gamut masking (I think it was a newer feature in Krita at the time, thank you soo much to the devs for this!), so when I tried it for this piece it really gave me greater confidence in mastering color choice for an overall effect.
