Hi, sorry for reposting! This is one of my oldest artworks, but I shared it in a thread that doesn’t get included in the portfolio page. It’s a more polished one, so I wanted to have it on record
This is a copy study of Mikoto Misaka from A Certain Scientific Railgun T. I drew this when I was binge watching the whole Toaru series Mikoto is a girl with super powers and her signature move is propelling a metal coin to supersonic speed. How cool is that! Hence her nickname, Railgun.
Congratulations, @YRH, this is now featured in the gallery.
May I have your permission to post it in Krita-Artists’ Mastodon account? If yes, I will credit your user name (or another name that you specify). If no, no problem. Please @ me in your reply.
@sooz hehe, it’s a little unexpected, but I’ll take it
I’m not sure what should be the bar for sharing it more widely. It’s a straight up copy, which makes me a bit uneasy. But if it’s OK based on your past experience, then please feel free to share. My user name is OK, it’s what I use for art related stuff.
I think it’s ok. You were very good to mark it as a study, or fanart, of Misaka Mikoto and I’ll be sure to carry over that text on Mastodon. There’s a lot of fanart from this artist online.
Your drawing is really good! I see that you really know how to balance colour:
As in, personally, I feel the colour theory you’ve used here is actually better than in refference itself.
If it still helps I want to add these critiques:
The anatomy iself isn’t so congruouse, I really think this is the piece’s biggest downside;
This situation might occur by just simply trying to be as faithful to the drawing as possible, by copying what you see from it and not the anatomy proportion themself - in the future, try approaching it as just a random drawing you make, and then takethe anatomy tidbits of the refference from the most to least noticeable, the anatomy parts will tie themself better that way! ^^
And second, the eyes, you could’ve added some soft brush-strokes to them, as you did for the blush (and as in the refference, if I am not mistaking)
I would advice you to really try experimenting with soft brushes in general and see if you like them - they can REALLY help your drawing a lot if you know how to use them and they can be pretty fun.
And that’s kinda it, hope I’ve helped in any way and that you have a G’day!
I’m happy that you liked it and thank you for the feedback! There’s always something to improve either due to the lack of ability or laziness / cutting corners I definitely want to try new things in future paintings.
Chronologically, this is my oldest work. I think my new ones are a bit better, although I’m not always super consistent yet. Sometimes one aspect is better while another falls short.
Happy you are, my pleasure, and keep it going you’re really good at it, hope you really enjoy making it.
I suffer from the same problem, so if you find a trick please notify me too fam!
