Nice paintings and good work with the loose brush strokes but not quite Monet. Monet’s brushstrokes are more spontaneous (even very messy) and the colors has more going on with them. Not bad paintings per se but not very Monet or impressionistic.
Thanks! Got any tips?
Well, this could get quite complicated.
Impressionism is about our impression of light and color. This is why Monet paint the subject directly outdoors, to directly observe the effect of light and colors, and why most impressionist works are of outdoors. They apply their knowledge of color theory (about how we perceive light and color) to depict their personal impression of light and color.
So… My first tip would be to study color theory, not much, but some basic understanding that you can implement on your work.
One technique to note is Broken Colors. Instead of laying down a single color, you lay down layers of distinct colors and utilize optical mixing to “mix” the colors. That is why when you look at a Monet painting up close, it would just appear as a jumble of colors.
This stuff could be really complicated for beginners. I think a demonstration could make the concepts more digestible but I’m a beginner myself and not very proficient with impressionism.
Great work!
