@Mythmaker, good to know that you’re better! ![]()
More votes could give another result than the usual two, don’t you think so?
Well, maybe it’s also because there’s always that little pinch in the heart when choosing ![]()

I often find I can pick a favourite, but struggle with my second choice, so maybe it would help? ![]()
But then maybe I’d just struggle with my third instead! ![]()
Same as me! There is always a favorite, then I have to pick between two.
I guess even if we get more votes, it’ll never be enough ![]()
Such great entries everyone. And I Iove how people have taken up the extra challenge so enthusiastically! What a job to choose 2!
Maybe more people migrate here because at least this site is remaining a real art site and not a dumping ground for AI stuff, as bigger and more general sites such as DeviantArt tend to be nowadays. We need a strong restriction to avoid AI and here it’s provided by the software-centered site. Hooray for Krita!

Yep! That is the advantage when a platform is not run by managers who only have the next highest possible payout for the shareholders in mind, which at the same time will put higher bonuses in their pockets, but when the platform is run by those who are part of the community and are themselves negatively affected by such unspeakable stuff as AI image generators.

I love this. When the challenges first started happening, the contest was so… quiet. This is so much more awesome now. I wonder if we will ever get to the point of so many participating, we could have “elimination” challenges.
Back when @Mythmaker and I were part of conceptart.org, I would go to the archives section. I would see these challenges that would go on for months because they have hundreds of participants. Every month tons would get voted off… until finally, there can be only one.
That would be nice to see something that epic in KA.
Woah! I guess that wouldn’t be called a “challenge” anymore
Feels much more like a competition, with prizes for the last one standing drawing!
I like to see all the differences in styles, colors, and composition, so having more and more people joining in is simply great ![]()
I don’t know, it’s nice to have more entires but only to a certain point. I hope it stays “human-size”, and I think the best way for that is to not ever have real prizes. So we stay among selfless passionate artists! ![]()
Yeah, it’s just that the kind of challenge @edgarej described…
… feels much more like a grand competition with prizes at the end. If the community ever gets to that point, having hundreds of participants with a competition lasting for months, I don’t think a simple prize such as “the winner gets to choose the next theme” would be enough.
I think that, not only in this challenge but in the whole community, having not too many people around is better. Newcomers debuting in drawing/painting have a much bigger chance to be seen and have feedback, unlike on other platforms where it is easier to be drowned by others.
That’s my point, but we don’t have to worry: it’s not the size of the community pushing for a prize but it’s when a prize is set that the community can bloat out of control. ![]()
Totally agree with you.
Looks finished to me! Love it… light, color, composition, subject! <3
There’s a good point to be made about “being too big” drowns out/discourages new artists. But I do have to admit big competitions like that are still interesting.
heck… we could even do that in a small scale. we could throw in a pit the last five winners of the monthly challenges. let them duke it out to the end. I’ll hand out free popcorn for the event ![]()
Yeah, but maybe not for the monthly challenges, more like some kind of yearly challenge/competition!
Isn’t that how conceptart.org died? Though the forum was more focused on improvement, I think, than just sharing.
I wasn’t actively doing art at that time nor was part of other digital art communities. But as I understand it, from third party stories, the forum died, because it got too big, attracted too many people who didn’t take improvement seriously and all the pros left.
Even after conceptart.org, other sites were created to get that “we take improvement seriously” mentality back, but none of them caught on.
For me from what I can tell, conceptart.org died because of mismanagement. The last few years I never saw any of the management log in… it was all run by midlevel moderators. But I came in the last three years of conceptart.org though… at that point the pros had already left. so maybe you were right as well, it got too big and everybody left.
Congrats @Jimplex!
Congratulations @jimplex! You are the winner of the April 2024 Monthly Art Challenge!
To everyone who submitted artwork and/or took the time to vote: Thank you and well done.
But wait, @jimplex… your work isn’t finished yet.
Congratulations @jimplex ! I knew your entry would, at the very least, be in the top three. Well done! ![]()
Thank you so much! It’s a tremendous honor, especially considering the fantastic work I was seeing with all the other entries. I’ve got my thinking cap on in regard to the topic for the next challenge and will go do steps 1 and 2 immediately! Thanks very much once again!
