LOL it’s not an egg, it’s a Christmas bauble that you hang on the tree… At least I managed the expression: he’s annoyed indeed, but because he just accidentally broke it!

Here’s my submission for this challenge. I still need a little more practice on color theory.

Mother and Child… that first precious Christmas night.

Merry Christmas all! What a fun challenge this has been! Chiaroscuro is so much fun to browse, much less draw! (Btw definitely going to be showing off that new art vocab word … as long as I don’t mispronounce it!)
Seriously, great theme idea! It works perfect with Christmas too. But oof! is this a hard month to squeeze in the art challenge! So another bravo to everybody for finishing their pictures!
Again, it’s really fun to look over everyone’s work. I agree it’s gonna be a tough vote. Whatever the tally, there’s a lot of winners here. :star:
Merry Christmas, everyone! :christmas_tree: :sparkling_heart:

I doubted this work belongs here (I actually drew it in the beginning of December for this exact challenge lol) but was told to post it anyway so here it is. Hopefully fits both of the topics. I made it with my fave brush solely (wellll except for the snowflakes) - Ramon’s charcoal pencil.

Hope I uploaded everything correctly, I am new here…

UPD: it somehow got resized so I am not sure of the quality now :sad_but_relieved_face: , here’s the link just in case - 3.44 MB file on MEGA

That has to be my most rushed entry yet, I started yesterday :kiki_sweat_smile:

omg, this has to be the hardest voting choice yet!

Lots of first-time participants, and many multiple entries. I’m so happy everyone enjoyed the topic I chose for this month’s challenge! Learning challenges are so fun in art.

Oh my! This is a surprise! Like I said, there were a ton of really amazing entries this month, I’m honored and humbled! Thanks everybody!

Ginger, while also honored, is too busy snoozing after all her holiday shenanigans to give an acceptance speech. :smiling_cat_with_heart_eyes:

(And yes, this is where she typically sits as I’m drawing on my laptop!)

For next month, I have two ideas for a topic. Let’s do a quick poll to choose which to go with. Please vote ASAP so we can give @sooz time to get this posted in time for next month’s challenge.

  1. Vintage Travel - Create a travel poster like what people may have seen on the walls in an airport back in the idealistic yesteryear. This could depict any location, real or fictitious. A quick example of what I’m thinking of can be found here: Vintage French Posters – Vintagraph Art

  2. Game Night - The Olympic ads I’ve seen recently got me thinking about this, and yes, I know I’m a month early. Did you know the modern Olympics originally gave medals for painting? Check it out: https://www.smithsonianmag.com/arts-culture/when-the-olympics-gave-out-medals-for-art-6878965/ I was thinking we could bring this back here and have the challenge be to create works that capture: “Sport and the Olympic values of excellence, friendship and respect.”

    VOTE HERE:

  • Vintage Travel
  • Game Night

For the optional challenge, I was thinking of bringing the Assistants tool to the spotlight. On the discussion page, show how you’ve brought this powerful tool to bear in your work!

Congrats @steve.improvthis! You knew better: you can never compete with a cat pic on the internet! LOL

If I may give my opinion about your choice of topics, I think the Vintage Travel option is way better because it gives a lot more possibilities, especially to people who are not into sports. While I’m sure even people who don’t travel always do it in their imagination… :cowboy_hat_face:

Yup. I know not all artists are into sport-ball, so I figured I’d ask about it. Maybe it’s the ‘something different’ or the pop culture aspect that captures the imagination.
And as you know, I’m always up for a ‘travel to distant places’ landscape!

It looks like there is more than a 2 to 1 preference for the Vintage Travel option. I’ve sent @sooz a message with the full description for next month. As long as Olympic fever doesn’t strike and take the lead in the next few hours, I think we’ve decided on January’s topic.
