@freyalupen Love this.

This is a scene from downtown Vancouver (reference is a photo I took). Thanks, @Mythmaker, for helping me with the vanishing point.

All the reference photos I used are in this post Monthly Art Challenge WIPs and Discussion Thread – February 2024 - #94 by Iruhas

I like to take this challenge and make it like a game in hard mode, all the drawings below I made using 1 brush (with shape engine), using 1 layer, in just 1 hour.

One brush, one layer, one hour  Sounds like a challenge on its own! I wonder if it’s thanks to the experience you received doing your daily prompts.

Maybe yes,
and I think in general, practicing more things that you haven’t tried before can be very helpful.

I’ve added the 3rd entry, and I’m done.

I don’t have any time to work on this today - so no last-minute noodling for me. Sorry to break with tradition! :yum:

I did rush into this one since I was running out of time. I painted it by eye - So there’s quite a lot of drawing/perspective problems I’d like to improve, and need to balance out the detail. The street was empty when I took the photo but I thought I might try adding a cyclist once I sorted everything else.

I did the underpainting using a shape engine brush. I’ve used coarse oil style brushes to try and prevent me getting too fussy with it - I wanted it to look like a painting rather than a photograph.

Well, I’ll leave it to you to decide how I’ve done… :upside_down_face:

That’s just beautiful :star_struck: It’s such a lovely place. I can just imagine birds singing and playing in the air, bleating sheep, and a ringing bell.

You’ve done great, as usual. But I don’t really see the point of those black stripes…?

@Mythmaker Wow, very painterly! Looks like one of those really old masters’ works

Bummer I found this thread too late! I was working on something and missed the deadline. :frowning: Hopefully I’ll be more timely going forward.

Great work by everyone! Some really amazing artwork here!

Here was my take, it’s a break from the urban hub-bub in a back yard Beach Villa oasis.

This was painted using only the memileo 360light knife grainy.

Phew! I finally decided on my votes - that was surprisingly tricky!

I often find I can pick a favourite, but then struggle to decide on the second vote. It’s nice that we consistently have lots of entries though. I wonder if we’ll break the record again at some point this year?

 I think it’s just an old habit - partly because the canvas is 16:9, so makes me think of widescreen film. But I also just wanted a dark border to set it off. I forgot the forum is dark grey though - so it doesn’t really need it. You can hardly see it in the viewer as that’s almost black anyway. :man_shrugging:

I’ll probably post it without if I make the improvements I mentioned.

(or maybe I’ll leave it in just to annoy you… :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:)

Oh I’m so annoyed! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
Without the stripes, real 16:9 is great to make wallpapers (not that I was ever satisfied enough with any of my own paintings to use it as wallpaper… :face_exhaling:), because it’s the format for modern screens, but not for films! LOL There’s a confusion here.
Old films are shorter (1.37:1) and nowadays films are even wider (like 2.39:1)! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

That said, it could very well be a scene from The Quiet Man (John Ford, 1952). One of the best films ever!

Congratulations to everyone,
Hello @steve.improvthis I like your drawing, :kiki_love:
I hope you post it in the finished artwork section.

Before the voting closes, for whoever wins I hope he/she makes the next topic about creatures. It’s been 4 months in a row that we’ve been drawing the environment.
:kiki_shocked:

Don’t think too much of my opinion, I’m just conveying the little scream in my mind.

The scream in your mind sounds like fine music to me!
