Monthly Art Challenge – July 2024 – Still life from another world

So here’s my entry. I managed to go through the whole thing staying in line with the challenge. It taught me a surprising amount. I leaned further into the normality, with dipping my toes into the weird

Edit: I enjoyed trying to figure out the compisition, though the colours are unfortunately a bit grey and unsaturated which I realized a smidgeon too late

@TazTopaz I think it looks nice but you are free to edit your entry right up to the deadline, if you wish.

These are my entries for this month.
It was a really fun challenge, but I confess that it was challenging to create something since, for some weird reason, my head was fixed on crystals, tentacles and antennas. :alien: :gem: :satellite:

I used one layer and no eraser/undo, just paint over paint (digital at least ).

  1. SciFi Soup/Mix: :alien:

  2. Dressing table of a secret agent:

Some interesting objects you have here. :+1:

“Still Yet Moving” is my submission for this month’s challenge. I appreciate the Moderators’ and Community Members’ input on my initial idea to cut and paste from previous works of mine, but this piece is 100% original and I’ve decided that will be the way I approach future challenges. It may not have that “Classic” Still Life appeal, but maybe in the world it’s depicting it does. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I love the way you did the surface of the… mirror?

It’s kind of a “bad mirror” on the subject of reflection  but I like that frosted look to it

Tetrahedon Crystals From a Distant Planet

One brush, one layer, one take, no erasing.

Second entry: Still Life with Vase and Flowers (and of course some tetrahedron crystals lying around)

Again one brush, one colour, one take, no erasing, no undo, but two additional layers for the light gradient and structured background.

My submissions for this month:

“Portrait of Bob with Flowers for Mom”
I ended up keeping a table and changing it out for one with a glass surface with odd angles and brassish legs that felt a bit more alien.

“Color Changing Flowers”
Added a bit more color and some texture to the table to capture reflections and shadows.

And finally… to complete my flower trilogy:
“Flower on a Rainy Monday”

I decided to change the city background into a rainy alien creator rather than a cityscape. I worked a bit more on the rain, added some clouds and touched up the reflection of the flower in the window… calling this one finished with a few minutes to spare.

See the discussion thread for more info about these three paintings.

“Bob”? Come on! He deserves a proper alien name, one that you obtain by rolling your head randomly on the keyboard!

@Fluffy_art Every one of us started as a beginner sometime. Don’t give up! I’m glad you entered the monthly challenge.

I like your try! Try to draw in grayscale until you get the grasp of value, light and shadow. That is more than enough to start with :smiling_face_with_tear: ( I am still struggling )

Youtube is a fun place to learn how to draw. Just search for “how to draw a digital ____” (fill in the blank with what you want to draw) and you’ll be surprised at what comes up. Draw a little something every day and in a year you’ll be amazed with how far you’ve come!

Update: I lowered the orange flask a tad. I did not do the optional challenge. Old habits are too hard to break! Lol

Alchemy still life. I’m calling it done, before I add any more weird stuff. A little bit macabre, a little bit other-worldly. Inspired by vintage Frankenstein stuff, Star Trek’s Borg, and Little Shop of Horrors. You guys are helping me develop an imagination!
