Monthly Art Challenge – July 2024 – Still life from another world

Looks like my orange beeker is a little high off the plane of the table. Oh well.

Well, it’s a magic potion! Maybe a levitating one? You’re amazing as always, incredible work

Wow, so realistic and has some great details, I especially like the books and how the light passes through the liquid on the open book

Here’s my entry, Ring on a Horn. Could be Smaug’s horn, who knows? Maybe he’s buried under the gold. I also thought square coins fit well with the Dwarven aesthetics…

P.S.: no optional challenge for me this time.

And here’s my second entry.

OMG This was so much more work than I imagined when I had the first idea! :face_with_spiral_eyes: Needless to say, I didn’t do gauntlet mode here either. Quite the opposite actually: I never used as many layers before, around 50 or so, with all the textures and effects… For the first time I had some lag on opening Krita after I applied that transformation mask on the typed text!
Speaking of the text, it’s real meaningful Latin composed by me, I hope I didn’t make any mistakes, my Latin is a bit rusty so if someone among you knows Latin and can check, I’ll be grateful! The title on the closed book is hand-written and says “About Airs and Skies”. The page on the open book is written in the CAT Schmalfette Thannhaeuser font (100% free on dafont.com) and here’s the translation:
“Remarks and recipe for the potion of LEVITATION by the master Corentin Boxho (I wanted to use it as my signature, you may have noticed before that I like to blend it into the illustration when I can ).
The mixture of those ingredients produces a levitation or antigravity effect, which implies that the greatest precaution must be taken when mixing them, so that the elements don’t fly away. The ingredients have indeed, while mixted, a tendency to escape from the vessel upward, hence be advised to use a vial with a thin neck.
Here are the ingredients:…”
And if any of you have some doubts that I am indeed a master alchemist, you should know that I finished the game Potion Craft!

Wow, that’s what I would call otherworldly!

This is my entry for the month. I was planning to add some more stuff but it wasn’t really working so I just left it like this.

I should know better by now than to even glance at your work without a napkin under my chin! SO DELICIOUS!

Here’s my take…

Gauntlet mode is hard… that ctrl z is such a muscle memory I would tap it three times before I realize I’ve been tapping it… so yeah, painted all in one layer and almost one brush but tons of unconscious undos.

@edgarej I must say, you reached a pretty impressive level of otherworldliness! :scream:
I guess it’s because you managed to get rid of any recognizable function for objects, like you can’t say “this is a table” and “that is a figurine” etc.
For me you won the contest already! I hereby grant you the medal of WTHAILA (“What The Hell Am I Looking At”). :medal_sports:

I was curious how you got the canvas texture on your piece?

It is quite easy. Add a filllayer. Set the blending mode to overlay on 60% opacity. Add a pattern. I use 05_paper-torchon.png.

Thank you. I will definitely be using that on some of my future pieces and possibly on some of my older ones to give them a little more zing. :slightly_smiling_face:
