Monthly Art Challenge – July 2024 – Still life from another world

Oh no, it’s an alien infestation!
It’s my first time doing something for the monthly challenge (or rather my first time not forgetting about it) but not only I liked the theme, I liked the optional challenge as well, which I did succeed at!
I had to disable undo shortcut, muscle memory is way too strong with this one haha

I made this fantasy vanitas inspired painting about a knight coming home after a battle and relaxing while surrounded by his spoils.

I never did a still life in my entire life, so I had to do a quick google search to find out what it was . I tried the no undo challenge and was doing OK until I hit the undo history docker by accident and reversed my progress (this is the only time anything was undone). I literally felt sick after failing, at least I tried :sob:.

I painted everything on one layer which is something I never tried before and I even learned how to underpaint and improved my overall painting ability. I was learning with every stroke! Thanks @Brinck for this challenge, I really learned a lot from this!

For those interested in the brushes I used:
g) Dry Bristles (I mainly used this)
h) Charcoal 13 Comp Soft
y) Texture Big
DEEVAD Spray
c4) Thin Brush Regular
c) Pencil-4 Soft
b) Airbrush Soft
g) Dry Textured Creases
vb2DI - Scatter Sharp (T)
vb2DG - Scatter Soft (T)

Great job adding age to the wood. Makes if feel lived in.

Thank you! I tried my best not to make it look like a basic IKEA table.

I would’ve done a bit better on the final details, but I don’t really have anymore time to work on it due to my personal life. I hope you guys like it!

(Btw, I did not do the one layer challenge)

That’s a really creative take on a still life. I like what you did with the teeth and eyes

I really like the shapes you came up with here.for this fantastical fruit. Also, you can think of it like this, the color blue + an orange = a Blorange.

I’d imagine this “still life” would not be so entirely still! :yum:
