Hey everyone, new here!

My first entry in the monthly art challenge!
I used 2 brushes for the final painting: the default g) Dry bristles and the default g) Dry Textured Creases. I use these two together all of the time.

For my reference image I made a mockup in Blender3D where I used a few textures from polyhaven.com uploaded by Amal kumar and Rob Tuytel, and an HDRI fom Greg Zaal. Afterwards I photobashed the 3D render with some pictures from Pixabay and Freestockpro and an artwork named Seascape from 1650 by Jan Theunisz Blanckerhoff.

For the final painting I started with a texture on my canvas by David Leroy. No pieces of the final painting has been traced or photobashed, nor has any AI been involved in the making of this picture.

You can check out my Mastodon profile for a timelapse of this painting: Benjamin Brinckmann (@BenjaminBrinckmann@mastodon.art) - Mastodon.ART

I really need to learn how to do clouds like this!

Thanks! I’m really satisfied about that part myself. I really like your drawing as well, the quiet mood and the style of pencil drawings makes me nostalgic to my time as a kid reading through Alan Lee’s work.

Thanks! Than I managed the assignment! The focus on narrative was important as well as the use of contrast and perspective.

Thank you very much @Erisian and @sooz ! I’ve been using Krita since 2020, so I really should’ve joined earlier, because I’m so incredibly grateful for this software to exist.

Haha, thanks! I find g) Dry bristles to be perfect for this. Just use your stylus lightly while you make circular motions. Focus on the big shapes of the clouds first and use the erase function actively. Think like your cutting away pieces of paint until you’ve got the shape you want. Than add the highlights on top, but don’t make them to sharp. The trick to painting clouds is choosing where you apply hard value edges and soft value edges. I’d say 70% soft edges and 30% hard edges gives a nice painterly feeling.

Hi, first post here.
I’m a little late but was inspired by the challenge and decided to try (even though I’m really a beginner ).
I used the Chalk Soft Brush, changing the opacity, flow and sizes.

Loving all the posts and wish lots of fun to everybody. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:
