Sometimes inspiration comes from the oddest places. I play 10X10 nonograms on an app when I have a few minutes to waste (https://www.puzzle-nonograms.com/)
Nonograms is a logic puzzle with simple rules and challenging solutions.
The rules are simple.
You have a grid of squares, which must be either filled in black or marked with X. Beside each row of the grid are listed the lengths of the runs of black squares on that row. Above each column are listed the lengths of the runs of black squares in that column. Your aim is to find all black squares.
Left click on a square to make it black. Right click to mark with X. Click and drag to mark more than one square.
When I’ve completed a puzzle, I always look at both the filled in boxes and the negative space and try to ‘see’ a story and form a simple story. Of course, the puzzles are just random numbers, but sometimes an image just pops out at me…

I admit it’s quite challenging for me to draw Kiki - the proportions and style of the official images are so different to my usual stuff. It can start to look a bit weird because, as I’m painting, I tend to try and humanise her face and it just doesn’t look right.
