Monthly Art Challenge WIPs and Discussion Thread – June 2025

Good luck with that, it can be hard. But your idea is soo good, I really hope the struggle will go away.

Hey guys! A giant sun dragon might be a pretty generic interpretation of “Wrath of the Sun”, but its what came to mind first sooooo
Anyway, this will be my first attempt at a monthly art challenge and I hope I can continue to work on and finish it on time!

wow i love that dragon :sun_with_face:

Somehow when adding the frame I realised that it could totally look like a card. So the second characher down was squeezed out (he wasn’t the one representing the sun no big deal).

@eysseIia I really like this. It reminds me of a Fire Bird. The circle patterns and boarder enlivens your composition. Nicely done :

Still working..

Goodness the lighting and the perspective of this are confusing me… Had to take a break because inspiration was running short

Good attempt, fox and road are relly two dangerous things for chicken. Hope you find another idea.

Here is what I have so far, I don’t think I’ll add a group of travelers like I intended. Too many IRL events lately making me not have much time to draw.

Hey there! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
Well, I’m kind of exhausted from painting because I just made 3 illustrations for a contest on digitalpainting.school (that I will post in the Finished Artwroks section after the contest is over), so for our challenge here, I kind of went easy mode by making a simple space scene with almost only geometric shapes, patterns and filters… I only used the brush a little bit on and around the Earth and the starfield brush for the background, but basically this could have been done with only mouse and keyboard! And yet I think it’s not too bad. But you tell me, does it look like what it’s supposed to look like? The Sun turned into a red giant and is absorbing the Earth’s atmosphere and vaporized water, as the planet is slowy falling into the star… I struggled with representing the suction of the atmosphere, it’s kind of hard to find the balence between clear (>cartoony) and realistic (>almost invisible). I ended up using an obscure Quadratic blending mode called “Heat-Glow”. But it could change… Also for the external frame, I thought it could be the window of a spaceship that would have left the Earth just in time, but I don’t know if it gives this impression.

PS: I can’t believe I completely forgot the Moon! LOL Well, one could argue that it has already been absorbed by the Sun, but I guess it would make the image more rich and interesting to add it… :first_quarter_moon_face:

quick question:
i posted my 3 entries to this month’s contest ~ is it allowed for me to change the images submitted before deadline?
over the weekend I created 2 pieces which I think fit better and so I was thinking to swap ~ but not sure if that’s allowed, so just wanted to check ツ

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that, because you made all the pieces during the challenge period, and I can’t find a word that says otherwise. In my eyes it is okay, but let us ask @sooz on it, and see how she sees this, we have three days left for the challenge, so you won’t run out of contest if she should arrive later today.

Thanks, @Michelist — I will wait for @sooz’s reply ~ and I could not find anything that forbids it either but didn’t want to go against the rules, in case I missed something somewhere ツ

Any updates up until the deadline are fine - don’t worry about it! :slightly_smiling_face:
