That is so lovely, and your notes are useful for others as well

@Konstrukto

My I suggest tilting the front of the table upward to better match the perspective of the surroundings? Maybe it will help make the legs easier to position.

Indeed, that’s great advice @Elixiah thanks!

Thank you @Elixiah @jimplex

This month’s topic reminds me of this scene in a movie that is often talked about and deconstructed because of how they used the mirror:

That would have been a good candidate for this month’s art challenge.

@rosa Your post was removed from your sketchbook thread and moved into the monthly challenge WIP thread. One of the challenge rules is not to post the artwork in the main part of the forum until after the challenge has closed.

sorry @sooz, i will stop posting in the sketchbook thread, the reason i posted there was i did not meant to submit this painting for the monthly challenge, i was working my way into another piece (with no resemblance to this), and wanted to post on progress to remember how i finally learn to place the eyebrows at a desirable place and drawing a better eye. The sketchbook thread have become a place for my personal progress , looking at it daily have motivate me to keep practicing.

Oh, I see! Very smart to work that way. In this thread you can share any progress shots while you’re creating your challenge submission. Can’t wait to see yours!

Edit (add) Every month when we announce the challenge, we also create a separate thread for works-in-progress.

Current WIP do you have some suggestion forthe background? I thought about a battlefield of broken chess pieces (like magical chess)

Broken chess pieces would be fantastic!

For some reason, I just can’t seem to pull the trigger on the mountains sketch I made a few weeks ago. Maybe I’ll get back to that one. At any rate, I came across this picture in my daily travels: https://img.freepik.com/free-vector/gradient-summer-cards-with-silhouette-palms_23-2147822024.jpg?size=338&ext=jpg&ga=GA1.1.87170709.1707523200&semt=ais

It looked like a fun idea so I made a few palm tree brushes (10 to be exact) and got to painting. Here’s the result:

It is surprisingly difficult to line things up like this in Krita compared to say GiMP (at least for me). I had to resort to old-school tricks and build spacers to get the alignment looking spot on:

I’m still not sure it’s as centered as I’d like it to be.

As always, I’m looking to improve and feedback would be great. General thoughts are good, and I’m also interested in composition ideas… like which panel should go where in the 6-pack based on the colors. I have only a very basic color theory background and mostly go with what feels right. The current view is nowhere near their original order!

Just… so darn cool!

Did you try using the rulers and guides?
Nice job!

With thanks to @Elixiah

@Corentin thanks and yes I thought about it. I saw this in the Krita help where it talks about snapping to a grid:

Guides
This allows you to snap to guides, which can be dragged out from the ruler. Guides do not need to be visible for this, and are saved per document. This is useful for comic panels and similar print-layouts, though we recommend Scribus for more intensive work.

If I were building this for anything other than this challenge, ya I’d export the finished panels to a layout program. But that’s not allowed here!

Looks like a lot of math to get those guides centered!

I even downloaded the plugin ‘Align to Selection’ and it is helpful, to a point.

It would indeed be great to have an option to change the ruler so the 0 is in the middle of the page instead of in the corner… To catch proportions without the need to calculate!
(Or does it exist and we missed it?)

Here’s my idea for this month. I’ll have to add more stuff in the background as it feels a bit empty (maybe I’ll do some caveman drawings, that would be interesting!), but I think I got the colors right :slightly_smiling_face:
