I had a pretty clear idea of something in my head - A crude structure built on a rock in the sea utilising wind/solar/wave power. I forced myself to do some thumbnails though because it’s good practice and I often come up with better ideas or variations. They’re mostly the same idea except the last two. About 50 minutes total:
I love love love Simon Stalenhag. I’ve always followed him. But he feels more “Stranger Things” vibe for me rather than “solar punk” vibe. Moebius/Jean Giraud feels more solar punk than Simon Stalenhag, even though Moebius is dated at this point. He’s still a classic sci fi inspiration though
@Elixiah check out moebius, he is very good; Classic - The Art of Moebius
Jusant has a Moebius vibe about it, and I think it probably fits the theme too as it features the remnants of a society living with extreme climate change:
There’s also Sable, which is about as Moebius inspired as you can get:

jusant looks really good… but i think sable hits the moebius spot more than jusant did.
and while we’re on the subject of old school sci fi illustrators… here’s a few more names for peeps to look at;
syd mead
hr giger (honestly, he’s probably more dystopian than utopian)
john berkey
Michael wheelan
It’s funny you mention Michael Whelan - I was on his website only a couple of days ago, and it’s been years since I last looked on there!
I was looking for an old piece of his I had stuck in my head while I was sketching those thumbnails.
Your sketches look like cool finished drawings! Mine are all sloppy and every which way LOL
Hah! - Only if your brain is good at filling in the blanks! ![]()
In the link you gave, there are two illustrations Moebius did not draw.
Starting with an idea. I have no idea where I’ll end up with it, but I’m going to try to portray a feeling of deja vu.

Which ones were it by chance?
I kept confusing Berkey with Whelan. I finally had to look up an image I had saved on my hard drive to see if the filename could give me a clue as to which artist was which…
I left the WIP before going to bed, scribbled for entry 2. Inspired by Kurzgesagt, I wondered if I could apply their art style using Krita.

I don’t know, but the content they create is high quality, I really like their videos.
Got some more done between pet portrait Christmas orders. I just downloaded those Memileo 360 brushes. Trying them out on these clouds and I’m really liking them!
I saw your final product in the submissions thread, and I could tell straight away that it’s Kurzgesagt-inspired! It’s a great submission, so colorful and bright ![]()
Thank you ![]()
A little more done on my piece. I’ve been looking for the right reference of an old farmhouse I can turn into a post-apocalyptic solarpunk looking place… which will sit where the gap in the clouds are. I’ll prolly end up using ideas from several different ones I’ve come across. ![]()
Nice! ![]()

Well I guess I’d better get a move on - I haven’t started yet! ![]()
i’m super curious what you would turn in. I’ve never really known you do any kind of sci-fi stuff
