🎨 Monthly Art Contest - January 2023 - Topic - Sticks and Fireworks

Happy New Year Everyone!! :tada:

As per our tradition for past years we will be having a new contest each month and this will be going to be the first for this year.

We completed the monthly art contest for December 2022. This time we had a tie for both first and second place. The winners for the contest are @Iruhas and @edgarej . Congratulations to everyone who participated and submitted wonderful art. And now we are having monthly contest for the month of January 2023. @Iruhas and @edgarej have come up with a interesting topic for this month.

Monthly Art Contest - January 2023 - Topic - Sticks and Fireworks

  • The task is to draw/paint a scene of a person or creature rejoicing in a party, event, or the like (can be a birthday party, new year celebration, etc.) by including stick and firework elements in the illustration.
  • All styles are welcome (within the general rules).

Rules

  • The concept and idea for the artwork should your own and not exact copy from someone or somewhere else.

  • Artwork should be done in Krita. Submission must be done from scratch in krita, no paint-over or tracing allowed. Photo-bashing is allowed only when explicitly specified in the topic.

  • The topic changes every month. Your submission should be somehow related to the topic. And if possible please add a few lines explaining your idea and image.

  • No AI generated images are allowed, not even partial use of AI and paint over. it is unfair for those who are drawing from scratch.

  • You can post maximum 3 Entries and also edit the entries until the deadline all your entries will be clubbed during the vote and you only get one vote. Reply with your entries to this post in this thread.

  • In order to have the image featured the entries need to be safe for work so please avoid any NSFW or controversial content. The moderators can use their discretion to disqualify the image from the contest with prior notice. Of course the artist will be given chance to submit alternate image or change it.

  • The submission will be open until 2023-01-28T00:00:00Z. The topic will be automatically closed and you can check how much time is left at the bottom of the thread.

We will hold a poll at the end on 2023-01-28T00:00:00Z till 2023-01-31T00:00:00Z . The artwork with most number of votes will be the winner.

Prize

  • The winner(s) be featured on this website in the featured row.
  • The winner(s) will have the privilege to set the topic of their liking. If the winner is not available or reachable then the 1st runner up will be asked to provide the topic and challenge
  • The winner will also be awarded the Monthly Art Contest Winner badge.

Also please spread the word about this contest by posting your artwork on various social media websites with a hashtag - #kritachallenge , if possible with a link to the forum post.

I hope we will enjoy this exercise so let us begin.

**P.S. Note we can change the rules based on the feedback on this contest and modify the format. Any suggestions are welcome. We can make a new topic in the Site Feedback category for it. Please post only artworks and discussion related to them in this thread.

I’m not sure I understand the contest topic this month. “Fireworks” is self explanatory, but what is meant by “sticks”? Lol

@Elixiah A length of thin wood. This can be natural (cut/broken from a tree) or artificially made such as a cane or pole.

Bert’s Birthday
Tom and William are celebrating Bert’s birthday in the forest

From the “Hobbit”: Tom, Bert, and William were three trolls encountered by Bilbo Baggins in the Trollshaws, while with Thorin and Company on their quest to regain the Lonely Mountain. Like most of their kind outside of Mordor, they were vagabonds who robbed, stole, and killed for what they needed or wanted. They were destroyed by sunlight which turned them to stone with the aid of Gandalf’s trickery.

Artwork made by Glipkerio Kistomerces (Faun Publishing), January 2023.

Made with Krita on a Wacom Cintiq 22

Multiple layers: sketches, sky and clouds background, painting with charcoal and bristle brushes, blender and sponges, texture spines for troll skin, bokeh bubbles. The fireworks and firesticks were made with the Vanishing point Tool option brushed with ink and blender.

The painting is beautiful, the nature’s rage is not  Nowadays this has become real issue, I think this is also nature’s way of telling humans not to meddle with its harmony.

I like the night sky and the twilight falling on the trees in contrast to the raging hot fire.
