Multibrush Copy translate Interval X and Y

Decided to make an official krita feature request for this Multibrush feature for Copy translate:
This is the symmetry tiled painting in Gimp:

I use this a lot when painting textures as I can paint details and cover a large area of an image in a short time. Then go in and add more unique details. Saves me a humongous amount of time.
I am using Krita because it has very fast performance and very intuitive. It also has animation features which is a huge plus for me.

Currently, the tiled painting is possible in Krita using the Multibrush tool, set to copy translate but its problematic to use as you have to manually place each brush in place precisely in other to get the brushes to line up as you paint and you also have to set this up everytime you reopen the Krita file.

I am more particular about the precision placing of the brushes so I am making a feature request for these options to be pls added to Copy translate options setting:

This way the multibrush can easily tile with no need to place them manually.

I use this feature a lot while painting and I can’t work without it as it saves me a lot of time.

Yeah an array modifier like this is important to have to make repeating patterns on a section of the drawing.

Yeah, and you can make changes in that section by painting over easily and fast. :slightly_smiling_face:

Any luck with this? :slightly_smiling_face: Hope everyone is doing well.

I know Krita development is handled by a small team who are always busy. I just want any info if there are any plans to implement this feature. :slightly_smiling_face:

It would be nice if a dev can say if this is going to be added or they have looked at it and decided this isn’t going to be useful to Krita.

I use this a lot in Gimp but prefer Krita so it has been difficult not being able to work in Krita due to this.

If a decision has been reached not to add this. That is fine too. :+1:

Hi @melvi - I don’t know if this is something the devs will consider. They have a lot on their plates right now with a move to a new brush editor and also upgrading to a newer QT version (which I think impacts every aspect of Krita).

We publish a weekly update that highlights all the new developments and current projects. Here’s the most recent one:

Thanks for responding, @Sooz. Thanks for the info.

I completely understand. I created a thread some months back and one of the devs said it should be easy to implement and should take a few days : Symmetry Tiled brush painting - #8 by tiar

However, she also stated they would need someone to be available to do it. I fully understand that she wasn’t making any promises. I am guessing it hasn’t been possible due to everyone being busy as from the link you have provided.

Guys, Any luck finding someone to pls add this? I know everyone is busy  It will just take a few days to do.

Hi guys, any update on this? My apologies for asking repeatedly.

Hi @melvi

I haven’t seen any of the devs comment on this thread – usually that’s how you’ll know something is under consideration.

Did you happen to catch Halla’s report on 2022/2023 that came out a few weeks ago? (Halla is Krita’s maintainer) It doesn’t help you with your request but you might be interested to know what their focus has been/will be.

Probably most interesting to you will be the section on what’s to come. Scroll down - waaaaaaay down - to “What’s to come in 2023?”

Hi Krita devs, any update on this?

Hope everyone is doing well.

Here is a list of everything they are working on right now and into the immediate future.

Please don’t keep bumping the thread. If they are going to work on this, you will see some kind of post or request for user feedback.

All hands are busy with the next release. So as far as I know no one is working on this.

Thanks for the info, raghukamath.

I’ve made a merge request attempting to implement this here: Add Multibrush 'Copy Translate at Intervals' mode (!1968) · Merge requests · Graphics / Krita · GitLab
It currently looks like this, though I am not sure about the wording.

@freyalupen Thank you so so much. :slightly_smiling_face: I am very grateful

Since this is now merged and will be available in the Krita nightly builds to test, closing this feature request thread to release votes. Please let me know in private message if you need the thread to opened again for some reason.
