I tried making a new canvas of 2000 x 2500 pixels at 100 resolution, but without even drawing anything the file was already around 20 MiB. Even putting down some brushstrokes was enough to bring the file size up to 30 MiB. I’m on the newest version of krita, and I’ve never had this issue before I updated it recently. If it’s important to know, my computer is almost out of storage space. I am on windows 11.
I believe you’re talking about memory usage rather than “space” on your hard drive.
That’s not a lot of memory for a canvas of that size.
This is the expected memory consumption for that canvas dimension. When you create a new file the dialogue will even tell you what the estimated memory consumption per layer for that file will be.
Memory consumption is also not the same as storage space (like for your hard drive). If you hard drive is full, there’s nothing Krita can do about it.
