My stylus is not clicking on certain buttons after i updated my huion tablet driver

Type of device* : graphics tablet
Brand and version of the device: Huion kamvas pro 13
System** : windows

* graphics tablet/display tablet/2-in-1 laptop/Android tablet
** Windows/Linux/Mac/Android, + version (you’ll find it in Help -> Show system information for bug reports)

Description of the issue (you can include screenshots):
I recently updated my tablet’s driver and it has apparently messed up a lot of my settings. my stylus will now not work if I click on the “toggle layer visibility” icon next to the layers, it only works if I click with my keyboard. the stylus works fine with pressure sensitivity when I draw, it just won’t press certain buttons on krita and krita only. It looks like it registers for a split second but then goes back to not doing anything unless i press it with my keypad. this same issue also applies to all the buttons at the top corners, like “settings” and “File” (although some of these buttons had the same issue before I updated as well). It’s also been giving me a lot of trouble with hotkeys, because some commands just straight up don’t work anymore. “undo” and “redo” work just fine, but when i try to assign “Ctrl” for a hotkey it wont do anything, despite the shortcut working just fine on the keyboard. I had the same issue with “flip canvas” too, but for some reason the “M” command on my hotkey suddenly started working at some point despite me not doing anything (at least I don’t think I did). Has anyone ever had similar problems?

Hello!

Hmm, hard to say at first glance. If you reinstalled the driver, can you check the following?

  • Is Krita and Huion driver using WinTab mode? (i.e. Windows Ink disabled)
  • Did you recallibrate your display?

Last time I had problems with erratic Krita behavior, it was because my pen broke. However, best to first rule out software issues, as the ones I suggested above.

thank you for responding. I’ve tried enabling windows ink and disabling it on the huion driver, but I didn’t see any difference. It is disabled on krita and when it is enabled it turns off pressure sensitivity. currently its disabled on both krita and the tablet but the issue still remains. I’ve also recalibrated the display multiple times because when I first updated the driver the mouse was incredibly jumpy and continually glitched. this problem went away after I pressed “Administer privileges” on the huion driver and recalibrated.

Did you uninstall the old driver, restart device and then install new driver and restart device after the new installation?

thanks for the response; yes, the old driver was automatically uninstalled when I got the new one. I restarted the computer after the new driver was installed

What kind of text output do you get in Krita’s tablet tester? Perhaps you can paste a few lines in a reply here.

If you have never used the tester, it’s in Configure Krita, Tablet settings, Open tablet tester.

here’s a screenshot of the tablet tester

Hmm, maybe it’s worth it to go back to the previous driver version to see if the issue isn’t caused by the new driver after all. Which version are you on now?

I noticed that Huion recommends a specific driver based on the device model and it can be an older driver than the latest release. For example for Kamvas Pro 13 it’s recommending this one:

Driver_15.7.4.183
Date of Upgrade: 2023-01-14

Non-pro or pro 2.5K get a different version, too.

I’ve tried uninstalling the new one and going back to the one I previously had, but its apparently no longer responsive to older versions. It won’t connect to the tablet anymore, and only recognizes the tablet when I go back to the most recent version. And yes, I currently am now in version 15.7.4.183, which is the version they recommend. I think i might try some slightly older versions though, just in case this one is just buggy

Ok I’ve tried installing the old version they recommended for the product (15.6.3.132) and I actually still had the same exact problems. However, I also tried uninstalling the driver all together, and surprisingly the krita functions all respond now. The only that won’t work without the driver was the pressure sensitivity and hotkeys, which I expected. So now I know the issue is definitely with the driver, but its not necessarily the update? Honestly I’m just more confused now. The only thing I’ve recently changed with my tablet is replacing my cable because my old one had torn, if that makes any difference.

I doubt it’s the driver, I also use Huion on Windows (although different tablet models) and never had such fundamental issues with it. There was a slim chance, but if you get the same problem with different versions, then probably the issue is somewhere else.

Hmm, perhaps the USB cable is the most suspect now. Display tablets have more strict requirements for the cables, because they need to carry a lot of data (video signal). I would check one or two different cables then.

When I used to have Kamvas 16 4K, I had a really big trouble using another cable. Even short cables weren’t working if they were bad quality.

i have not read each of these posts, but I had something similar happen, My pen stopped collaborating correctly; it was drawing more to the left of where I wanted to draw, so on a search, I found nothing that could help, so I decided to look myself, if you haven’t yet try to reset your Krita settings. To do that, all you have to do is hover over the settings option in an art piece and look to the bottom of the list. There should be a button to reset your settings.

I HAVE FIXED THE ISSUE!
its been a while but I finally managed to figure out what my problem was exactly. The issue wasn’t with krita, it had to do with my huion driver and its compatibility with windows. For some reason it automatically chose windows 8 for the version compatibility settings. All I did was right click on the huion driver icon, click properties, compatibility, and then changes the windows from “windows 8” to “windows vista (service pack 2)”.
I also did delete a very old version of the huion driver on my computer as well, so that may have also been a part of the solution. If you are having a similar problem to mine I’d recommend thoroughly searchig your computer for an older version, I could’ve sworn I had deleted my previous versions but I managed to stumble across two programs labeled “huion tablet” and “huionTablet”, the older version did not show up in a search of my downloads and was no longer on my desktop. I could only find it through the windows search. I deleted the program through there and then restarted my computer
I hope this helps if anyone has a similar problem, I’m just really relieved to finally have my tablet working normally again
