New Document window doesn't fit the screen

Hello! I have a problem with Krita (latest version 5.2) UI scaling.

My system scaling on Windows 10 laptop is turned up to 175% due to my bad eyesight. Krita UI mostly fits this scaling comfortably, if not for New Document window, that’s outstretched vertically so that I can’t see or use Save and Chancel buttons.

I’ve tried using this advice from official FAQ, but it didn’t work. Are there any other possible options/solutions?

Thanks in advance!

I have found a semi-workable solution ever since, so I’ll post it here for anyone, who might have the same problem in the future. Turns out, the buttons are visible (even if cropped a bit) in fullscreen mode, since it reduces the space taken up by the new document window header (which is too much, when system scaling is larger than 100%) and I can work with that.

It’s not ideal, I’d still like to have UI settings more flexible, but it still works fine.

You may want to start Krita with the set QT_SCALE_FACTOR=0.75 instead. Whereas, you probably need to set a different factor than the one used by me, so play with it. To set up this scaling, you have different possibilities, for instance you can pass over this argument with the link to start Krita, or by putting it into a batch-file that calls Krita and you set up a link to that batch instead directly to Krita, that is the way I use, because I send more parameters than this to Krita.

Thanks! But where exactly should I change this preset? I can’t find krita logs right away for some reason.

To find the logs, just enter %LOCALAPPDATA% into the address bar of Explorer and hit your Enter-Key, in the folder you are taken you have to scroll to its very end, there you will find Krita’s log-files. In case you can not see the file name extensions, you have to enable the view of file name extensions in the “View” menu of Explorer what you will find at the top of Explorer, it is a checkbox from those 3 checkboxes on the right end of the “View” menu.

For the start with scaling factor I’ve prepared a small batch-file, you can open and edit it with Notepad or any other editor you like, just do it with a copy of that file, so you have a backup
If you installed Krita via its installer then you don’t need to modify the path in that file, just adjust the number behind the equals sign, try to begin with de-/increments of 0.2 to see in which direction you have to go, then you can take smaller steps.
After you have found a scaling you like, you can hide it in a folder you seldom visit, maybe together with Krita’s settings in %LOCALAPPDATA%, and set a link to it, or leave it on your desktop and start Krita directly using it, or even start Krita with it out of your “Start” menu,
which @freyalupen described here in more detail.

Here you can download the batch-file:

Hoping that I’ve nothing forgotten.

Thank you for your help!
Sadly, I wasn’t able to test the file out, since the link refuses to open properly on any tech that I have for some reason. But the instructions provided above helped me to make my own .batch

Now testing out different scalings.
