Night Knight

What Night Knight is complete without a night light (or is it a “knight light”…)? I have drawn /painted this particular character about three times throughout my life (something that is very unusual for me to do). I did learn something very important when I did this one. DON’T include linework within the group base layers (unless, of course, there is a certain style you are going for)!!! Unnnghhh… Needless to say he took me a little while to complete (cleanup). It is all part of the learning process. Got to try out the embossing filter for the first time. That is pretty cool to use! As always, please forgive the quality of the image, webglaze is starting to leave more and more strange artifacts again even though I have it on the lowest setting.

I love the character concept with the lamp. What other abilities or goals does the character have that influences how you draw him?

@starsworne Thank you very much! Being as though I am new to digital painting and just learned how to use groups and so forth, I decided to revisit doing this character in a digital medium. Somebody had once given me a canvas board and some leftover paints (remnants of a newfound hobby they were abandoning) when I was in my early 20s and that was when he first came into fruition. This is my best rendering of him to date. I did, however, physically draw him first. I have always referred to him as a Night Knight (sort of a tongue in cheek title, play on words, etc.). I haven’t really ever done another style of this character which now that you mention it has given me ideas! Thank you for the great question! Seems like he shouldn’t be unique to his order!
As far as a backstory…
Not much is known about Night Knights. They ONLY appear after the sun sets and depart before sunrise. Although very rare for them to appear, they seem to be attracted to night time battles and/or skirmishes. Their alignment is unknown (good, evil, nuetral, etc.). They tend to silently stride across battlefields to either observe or sometimes participate. When they raise their lantern before them, warriors within their immediate vicinity will momentarily cease combat as though in a temporary thrall and resume when the Night Knight lowers his lamp or passes from that particular area. None have been observed being slain in battle. They can phase in and out of corporeality at will and only become fully corporeal when attacking therefore, making them extremely difficult to target/harm. A single Night Knight can turn the tide of battle in favour of those they side with. It is suspected that they engage in battle for sport and is unknown how they determine those they align with. Note: They are not to be confused with Death Knights who seem to completely avoid them when they are able, being as NONE of their abilities (epecially deathspeak or words of death) have effect on Night Knights. Night Knights will ALWAYS align with the side opposing a Death Knight and often, but not always, wraithborn .
