Thank you so much @Elixiah for this! I was afraid maybe you had set it aside once I saw the ‘Taking a Break’ challenge was completed.

Your picture is so beautiful; a moving reminder of the daily unsung heroes, who’s efforts & sufferings that can easily be taken for granted.

I love how she’s so desperate for a break that she grabs a rest on the floor in a lonely hallway. While she’s obviously physically tired, you portray her emotional exhaustion in her pose and I’m really moved by that. The weight of everything she’s carrying inside is just as taxing to her weariness. It’s really beautiful.

Thanks for this. I’ve actually saved it! :face_holding_back_tears:

I’m glad to hear it moved you that way. There are several nurses in my family and some of the stories they have are heartbreaking. :sad_but_relieved_face: That’s what I had in mind the whole time I was painting this, and researching references to show exactly what I wanted to portray… The exhaustion, the mental pain, indifferent cold lonely hallway.

Oh I’m so glad you posted this!! Thanks for sharing your inspiration for the piece. That heart and soul really comes through. Very moving. I love your dedication too. :mending_heart: I’ve come back to this image when I want to pray for them and all those who give so much of themselves for the sake of others. A very inspired image! I hope many nurses see it!

That’s really great of you, @Elixiah  I know a little of it, having myself stayed overnight at a hospital to assist with my grandmother. I wasn’t even alone, my sister was with me, but, I still recall how draining it is just to be there and try to take turns being awake. The nurses that would check on us generally had to work 12 hour shifts. I didn’t like that. I saw how tired they became throughout the night. I never forgot that experience. God bless your relatives. :broken_heart: So wonderful for you to pay tribute to their sacrifices.

Excellent image and accurate portrayal of the high care team. Been there, got the Tee-shirt after 30 years of service as the head of the Cardiac and Pulmonary Services, We saw the worst of critical cardiac and pulmonary patients, along with the worst of trauma and hard surgical patients. It is both exhausting and rewarding, disappointing and uplifting. This can be read as doing ones best with no success and asking one’s self could I have done more or the opposite the post adrenaline crash after being able to save and move the patient to the ICU/CCU. Job well done both.
