No pressure sensitivity on my new laptop (Windows 11)

I just got a brand-new laptop (Windows 11) and installed Krita and I can’t get the sensitivity to work. I’ve tried the “configure toolbar” method, I’ve tried the Windows Ink method, and none of those worked. I have browsed for at least an hour trying to fix the problem, but nothing worked. I made sure the sensitivity worked on my tablet, so the problem is in Krita. It feels like the problem is specifically in my scenario and I can’t find anything on it. I’m not sure if this is related to this exact problem, but my lines are also kind of jagged, and when I draw a stroke, my cursor freezes over the line and doesn’t move until I draw another one and then the same thing happens on repeat (I use a Wacom Intuos Pro small and a Lenovo Windows 11)

 Hello @Katia_Dorosh, and welcome to the forum!

Can you please confirm, that you did disable Windows Ink in Krita (by choosing WinTab) as well as in your tablets’ driver interface, respectively the other way around, did you enable Windows Ink in your Drivers’ user interface as well as in Krita? Did you restart Krita every time you changed these settings?
Also, please tell us the version of Krita you are using and from where you got your copy of Krita? Was it from Krita’s homepage, or from Steam, the Microsoft Store, or the Epic Store, or even somewhere else, and if somewhere else from where then?

Sorry, but I’m just in a hurry and will be busy for an indefinite time, so I can’t walk you through your issue right now, but if you can answer these questions first, it will help the next helper stepping in.

Hello @Katia_Dorosh and welcome to the drawing tablet experience

I assume that Windows automatically installed the Wacom tablet driver and utilities as soon as it detected your Wacom Intuos being connected.

The Wacom tablet config/settings utility has the ability to create separate ‘profiles’ for different applications. While krita is running, you should create a profile for it and always select that profile when making any changes to the tablet config/settings.
After making any changes there, you should close the utility.
After making any changes to tablet related settings in krita itself, you should Quit then restart krita.

I think you mean that you put the ‘Use Pen Pressure’ icon on the Toolbar. All that does is give you the ability to force krita to see maximum pressure at all times, which is useful in some situations.
Now that you have it there, it’s possible that you’ve clicked it and disabled use of pressure variation.
Look at the icon and make sure there is not a small ‘x’ symbol at the bottom right of it.
If there is, click it to get rid of the ‘x’ so that pen pressure is enabled for use.

Please note the advice and instructions from @Michelist, above then try those first. They may fix the problem.

Now for my advice/instructions:
Do Settings → Configure Krita → Tablet settings, then press the Open Tablet Tester button.
Drag/resize and position the tablet tester window so it’s conveniently large.
Smoothly draw a short line on the grid area and notice the tablet event record at the right side.
Copy/paste just a few of those event records to a reply here.

You will be asked to upload full screen screenshots in the near future.
Please make sure that these are .png images and that they are of the entire window including the status bar at the bottom of the application window.
Make sure that the Layers docker and the Tool Options docker are fully visible.
(The Tool Options docker is usually on a tab next to the Advanced Colour Selector docker if you’re using the Default workspace.)

When drawing on the canvas, use a canvas size of about 1000 x 1000 and use the
Basic-2 Opacity or the Basic-5 Size brush preset for initial checking of behaviour and troubleshooting, selected from the Brush Presets docker. They give instant and understandable visual feedback of working pressure variation.

For now, we can investigate the pressure sensitivity situation and try to get that working.
Please answer all the questions that you’ve been asked so far.

Yes, every time I made new changes I restarted Krita. Windows Ink is on, on both Krita and the tablet driver. I use the latest version of Krita, 5.1.5. I downloaded my copy from the Krita website.

In principle, I am happy to hear that it now works for you. :+1:

If the error occurs again, then feel free to report back here in the forum, and then please try to recapitulate what it could be that you could have done before to achieve this state, because currently we only know that such malfunctions can occur with you, but not how to solve them so that they never occur again. That’s kind of unsatisfactory.
