Most of what I do has to be considered sketches. Some take quite a while to finish, but that is just me having no idea where it is going. I am still working through my collection of brushes, using just one for any particular sketch, to see what they do.
This one I did with White Bear’s G pen. I asked the wife if I should have coloured it, and she said do another one.
So I did, kind of. Colouring consisted of using a brown pen rather than black, with a touch of green. I did use a second brush, the eraser. I ended up with this, only remotely similar. Can’t see me ever duplicating anything.
Thank you, I appreciate the feedback. I am new to art of any sort, I have no idea if what I think looks OK is actually OK, or comical to the max.
The first one was me wondering what I was going to do with the pen. I thought, maybe some work on my perspective(s). Thus the road. Fake some trees superfast (for me). Hmmm, kind of pale, wonder if it should have been coloured?
The second one was supposed to replicate the first, but with colour. Unfortunately, the plan, being a plan, changed as soon as the pen hit the tablet. Every tree was drawn fully, then bits were erased as the next tree covered it. One layer. Kind of dim witted, really, but my sketch philosophy calls for one layer, as if I was using a traditional sketchbook. (If such a thing exists).
Oh no, I definitely wouldn’t call them comical. And as far as philosophy goes, you’re discovering and learning techniques for yourself that work (or don’t work ). Like with the trees, giving yourself more layers may save you time in the long run. On the other hand, depending on the subject and workflow, juggling all those layers may slow you down. Some artists prefer the single layer sketchbook approach. (And yes, I’m pretty sure that traditional medium still exists ).
All my long way of saying, if you thought these pictures looked OK, I would agree with you. Especially as one relatively new to art - you should be encouraged by your success and the gift you have.
One of the brush packs out there claims they won’t teach me to draw. Well, I got news, there is no way I could do this without the clooms fine drawing brush in “hand”.
Thanks for that. I don’t usually ask for feedback because I don’t know what I need to hear.
I tried to do “zen” and show the tunnel with little or no detail, just suggestion, but there was no way to tell what we are looking at. Every iteration, with more detail, seemed to give the depth I was looking for, if not the minimalist look I actually want. I thought colour might make a difference, it was my worst attempt.
