I’m having a little problem with the liquify when using transformation tool. I’m new to Krita and digital art itself, so I’m still learning how to use it and how everything works. When I try to use “fast” transformation tool setting, so I can see in real time what i’m doing with the liquify tool it just start showing off canvas brushes. Like this:
What can I do to use it on fast? I changed it because on “fast with instant preview” it looks like laggy, even with my new PC settings. What can I do to solve it?
The Transform tool operates on all content, including off-canvas content.
This can be seen with the content bounding box when using the Free, Perspective. Warp and Mesh transforms.
When using Preview: Fast, the off canvas content is not hidden. I assume this is so that krita has to do less work in hiding the off-canvas content.
And there’s no way to view it in real time without that little delay it has on the “fast with instant preview” mode? Because when i’m trying to fix proportion with liquify it looks a little like i’m trying to guess where it is going to be after i release it, and before it really shows up. Is there another way to use it?
You might want to check Configure > Display > Canvas Graphics Acceleration. Or update your drivers.
If none of these work, check to see if it’s just the GPU underperforming. With a decent graphics card this should give faster feedback. Did you get screwed on your new PC?
You can also go to Image > Trim to image size , to manually get rid of extra brush strokes painted outside of the canvas. Without all this extra geometry outside of the canvas, your Liquify will be quicker.
Here I use the “Fast” mode only, and I usually constrain the area I want to deform before deforming with a rectangular selection (a quick Ctrl+R ). It makes the liquify “butter smooth”.
But becarefull; deforming the edge of your selection can leave artifacts. The default mode “Instant Preview” is really slow because it recompute all the layer stack and you also work on a full preview of the pixels. This mode is really not adapted in my opinion to the Liquify tool. A bug report explains it a bit more : 423788 – Liquify Tool - Utterly Slow Performance .
Yes, he probably liquefy the entire layer.
But “Accurate with instant preview” is real time, “Fast” is not real time. It’s a bit odd. Wait for him to comment.
I think I already had these lagg liquify experience in my old laptop too. I just changed to a PC with a RX 7600 CL 8GB and a AMD Ryzen 5 4500. I don’t think it’s underperforming, at least for gaming and work at all.
I did not know about the liquify bug at all. Using it after trimming to image size felt better and slightly faster. The off canvas pixels was bothering me but it felt better this way. Thanks everyone!!
If you haven’t tried it already, using AMD graphics my Krita is always faster using OpenGL instead of Direct3D, from my point of view I can recommend trying it, hope it helps you too.
So after using the selection, does the real time preview still bother you? I have the same settings as you, but sorry I’m using Nvidia. Yes, try Michelist’s settings. If it doesn’t work, you may have to wait for Krita or AMD to fix it. Did you update the AMD graphics drivers? AMD always YES in future driver updates.
I’m using it with the suggested configs and also trimming image when the off canvas brush strokes just bothers me. Everything is feeling smoother now and I’m getting used to the program too!! Thanks, everyone!!
