Online multiplayer?

hi i just want to suggest an online multiplayer feature in the steam version.
why? i’ll start explaining with my works: i use to work with game developer (since 2008-until now 2023), in a tight deadlines, we usually split the work of one image between artists, for example artist A, B, C work on split part of a mech: A-work on the mech, B-on the effects, C work on the background.
i think it would be useful if krita has a feature to work on online multiplayer: some artists / players can work on one image at the same time online. i can use it to explain the feedbacks faster too by correcting the image online on the other’s screen. (considering after covid-19 most of us works at home and becomes more difficult to explain feedbacks to other artists)

i understand that this online feature can be problematic since every online game has their own problem too, but its just a maybe-wish. this krita is already amazing on its own without any addition

btw thank you in advance for the attention, i already feel grateful for krita as its already become my main tool to work (on steam version and also on android-this one is more cool with the touch feature)

Not sure if you have ever heard of aggie.io but it has been closest online drawing game , to Krita, that allows for you and other artist to work on a canvas together.
If you haven’t already checked it out.

another really good program is DrawPile!! I use it to draw with friends around the world and i feel like it offers more tools and versatile brushes than aggie.io. but you have to download something and it is not multi-platform (like how you can open aggie.io on ipad through browser)

Yes drawpile is one program to draw on you pc and connect to a server. That program and krita exchanged features jn the past, so it could feel familiar.

If you want to draw simultaneously, you can use Magma.

As far as I am aware krita does not plan to add an online feature. Maybe there will be someone to add a plugin?

I think it would be cool if there was a feature for Krita 5.3.0. final release (about Krita users collaborating in real time on a single project, as long as all of them have internet at that moment and as long as they are logged in Krita website)

Personally, I think this feature is good for people that want to paint together, and it’s perfect for animators who are, for example, doing multiple scenes at the same time, as well as layer organizing (which I why I put for-animation and for-layers keywords), and it will also reduce animation time.

I personally think this feature would be perfect, you know…to have multiple people work on a project real-time through internet, and, once again, as long as they are all logged in… what do you guys think?

Hi @Pro_Mickey_Artist

Your new feature request has been merged into a pre-existing request for the same feature.

We try to keep all comments for a particular feature in a single thread so Krita developers don’t have to search multiple posts to read all user comments.

I didn’t knew…sorry…
But still it would be the best feature ever…it would litteraly crush other animation competitors

Also to the op: you are better off calling it what it actually is for future feature requests. Nobody in the industry refers to it as ‘online multiplayer’, since that would infer it’s a game to be played with…and not a professional art tool.

What you’re describing is not a new concept. Look up ‘online collaboration art’, which is how you find any of the projects the artists above suggested.

YES that would be awesome to have.
NO it’s not easy to implement unfortunately. Online collaboration is difficult even to maintain, hence why Ubisoft dropped it’s blender collaboration addon.

I’m not holding my breath for the feature being implemented just yet. But perhaps someone can use some of the back end server code from ALCY’s SD addon.
