Nice setup. This is an interesting way to work - starting from the eyes. Looks good so far!
The eyes are the most important part of any portrait whether bird or human and if they are not right then the work likely fails.

That may also be the case.
I should probably have expressed myself more precisely in order to make the underlying thought more clearly recognizable.
I was referring to the way the ostrich looks at us. In other words, the facial expression in which the clouded and half-closed right eye turned towards us, which I consider to be definitive in @kacart’s approach, together with the beak, which currently still appears unfinished, seems to represent something like slyness or something close to slyness.
